Before you start this fight, be sure to equip Azura and Corrin with two sets of Vulnerary items. Better be safe than sorry.

The map is split into two separate halves, with your characters starting on the top half. How do you get to the bottom half? You replicate your characters using the Dragon Vein! Using the Dragon Vein will “Split each allied unit into two bodies” . What this does is puts copies of you, Gunter and Azura down on the lower level, making it so you need to use both teams to take out all enemies.

This is entirely optional because the escape point is in the top half of the map, but the amount of experience you can earn, plus some lucrative item drops, makes the risk well worth it. However, before we get started, here’s some things you need to know about replicating yourself: First of all, damage taken will affect both copies of your units. Healing will also affect both copies. Stat debuffs will also affect both copies. And experience will also be given to both copies (and by extension, level ups). However, if your unit’s replica is defeated, your real unit will also be defeated! See what we mean by risk?

Replicating your units with the Dragon Vein

Pairing off Gunter with the Avatar will give them large defense and strength buffs, enabling them to sweep through with the Yato, while Azura sings to back you up (curiously, replica Azura cannot Sing). Given the map size, twenty turns is very generous, so you can definitely take your time to earn experience and be safe.

Once you’ve reached the escape points in the top map, which will likely happen before you’ve cleaned up the bottom map, park your units right by the tiles. If things get sticky downstairs, you can simply move on over to the escape tiles, use the Escape command, and be home free. You can also use your top units’ Vulneraries to heal so that your replicas can keep on attacking to gain even more experience, since healing is shared. All things considered, the scales are surely in your favor here, as not much can actually hurt you.

After the cutscenes and back at your castle, Lilith will show you that the Maid Felicia or the Butler Jakob, whichever you did not start with, has joined the team. If you are strapped for resources, they’ll be pretty redundant, but you can never have enough healers.
