Horizon Zero Dawn

Cauldron ZETA

By

Cauldron Zeta is located north of the Sun Furrows Hunting Grounds and guarding its front “entrance” will be three Stalkers. As you know, these machines can be rather annoying, as they can cloak, making them a bit more difficult to see. Unfortunately, that entrance is not the true one and you don’t really need to kill them to gain access to the Cauldron. Just west of the entrance is a ledge that has a Redeye Watcher on it. There is a “pillar” that has some handholds nearby, allowing you to reach this ledge with the Watcher and the hidden entrance to the Cauldron.

Be careful of the Stalkers guarding the outside of Cauldron Zeta (left). The cliff to the left of the main door hides the true entrance (right).

Override the door to open it and follow the path until you can drop off a ledge to a supply crate below. Continue west to find more supply crates, some water and another tunnel that leads straight to the Cauldron Core. Inside of the bubble shield is a Thunderjaw and as usual, there will be two Watchers patrolling the outside of the bubble. Either snipe them from the ledge above or rappel down to take them out. Remember that the Thunderjaw can’t do anything until you override one of the Discharge Pylons, so use that time to lay down some traps.

Even if you’ve fought the Thunderjaw a bunch of times with relative ease, you will find that this battle is a tough one, mainly due to the lack of space you have to dodge its attacks. Due to the lack of space, the first thing you want to do is knock off its disc launchers, but note that the Thunderjaw will likely use its melee attacks after this, so equip some good melee armor. After that, use Freeze Arrows enough to inflict Freeze on the beast, then quickly get to a disc launcher.

Use the disc launcher to inflict some massive damage against the Thunderjaw while its under the Freeze ailment. If you can, aim for the heart on the sides of its neck, as this will inflict the biggest amounts of damage possible (talking 2,000+ damage here). Freeze plus two disc launchers will likely put the Thunderjaw out of commission; don’t forget to heal. With that done, approach the core and override it to gain access to new Overrides, specifically the Thunderjaw, Stormbird and Rockbreaker.
