Description

The Long Sword swiftly deals big hits for big damage. It is similar to the Great Sword in many respects, but trades the ability to block for increased speed and fluidity. By attacking monsters, hunters can also build up the Spirit Gauge for powerful Spirit Blade attacks or an Attack Boost.

Usage Tips

Two and Move : The Long Sword is quite fast, but you should move in, slash and few times and get out. You have no method of block so a quick attack from a monster could easily catch your off guard and send you flying.

Fade Slash Roll : The Fade Slash does allow you to move, but not very far. The best and most effective way to create space between yourself and a monster is to use a fade slash to the left or right followed by a quick dodge in that direction. It deals damage on your exit, and moves quite far.

Preemptive Spirit Blade : In multiplayer, particularly, the Spirit Blade combo can be a source of nuisance to other players as it’s easy to accidentally catch them in its wide reach.

As such it can be a good idea to launch the combo from distance, with an eye to end with the final flurry connecting with the creature. This way you will activate your sword’s next level of power and avoid the risk of tripping your allies in your flurry.

Recommended Skills

Earplugs come highly recommended for Long Sword players simply because you want to build your meter and land your Spirit Combo as soon as possible.

Evasion+ is important because this is the Long Sword’s primary method of survival, considering it lacks block.

Focus lets you build your spirit gauge quickly, which can be a good skill to have.

If nothing else consider some Attack boosts, which are all the better when you factor in the way the Spirit Combo raises the attack power of the Long Sword.
