Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

9-star Quests

By
Vincent Lau

Welcome to the 9-star quests! You’re pretty deep into High Rank now, so keep on doing what you’re doing, and keep your gear in top shape. Talk to the people around Dundorma to receive your first key quest of this tier.

Quest Main Objective Location Subquest
Black Rock Down Hunt a Black Gravios Volcanic Hollow Wound the Black Gravios’s back

Black Gravios is going to cause your weapon to bounce unless you have white sharpness, which is likely not the case.

The only way to deal with this is to use attacks with built-in ESP (which prevents bouncing), or to break off the armor. Once Black Gravios’s armor breaks off, you will no longer bounce.

This fight is going to be made all the more difficult by the dark colors of Volcanic Hollow, making Black Gravios difficult to see.

Bring Cool Drinks!

After completing this quest, the Ace Commander will have an odd quest for you.

Quest Main Objective Location Subquest
An Omen in the Skies Hunt an Azure Rathalos Volcanic Hollow Deliver 1 Large Wyvern Tear

Head to Area 1 and you’ll see that Seregios has returned, in an attempt to defeat the Azure Rathalos!

After the cutscene, the Ace Commander will comment that you’ve already defeated the Seregios and wonder why another one has appeared.

Nonetheless, once the Seregios has left, go ahead and proceed to complete your quest. Bring Dung Bombs because Seregios is the guest monster.

The mystery of the Seregios will begin to unravel when you return to Dundorma.

You’ll discover that a strange anomaly has occurred in Seregios’s natural habitat, resulting in them traveling to other ecosystems and disturbing the natural balances there.

Dundorma’s Master of Defense is going to begin securing Dundorma’s defenses while field surveys are being conducted, but to get materials you’re going to have to secure the mines in Heaven’s Mount.

Quest Main Objective Location Subquest
The Echoing Roar Hunt a Brute Tigrex Heaven’s Mount Wound the Brute Tigrex’s head

Brute Tigrex will meet you in Area 5. Seregios might come in to ruin your day! After completing this quest, the Demolisher , a weapon used to defend Dundorma, will need to be repaired.

To get the dragon energy that powers the Demolisher, you’re going to need to hunt a rather specific monster…

Quest Main Objective Location Subquest
Forge Ahead Hunt a Stygian Zinogre Volcanic Hollow Wound the Stygian Zinogre’s back

Area 8 is where you will meet the hellhound king, Stygian Zinogre. Bring Cool Drinks!

As you’re celebrating the completed Demolisher, however, the Ace Cadet will return from his surveys with some terrible news.

Frenzied monsters are back.

But how? You defeated Shagaru Magala, the only source of the strange virus! Is another Gore Magala in the area? That’s impossible!

Once infected, a frenzied monster will die shortly after, limiting transmission. Because you are the only hunter who can keep Dundorma and the rest of the world safe from infected monsters, you’re going to have to step up to the job once more.

Go to the Wyceum and receive an introduction to the mysterious Wystones.

Quest Main Objective Location Subquest
Advanced: Glacier’s Bane Hunt a Brachydios Frozen Seaway Suppress the Brachydios’s Frenzy

Use the Wystone that you should have equipped to complete this subquest.

When you return, the Ace Lancer will give you news of an infected Deviljho rampaging around, but it is not the source of the frenzy either.

The Master of Defense will then inform you that he has discovered an incredibly formidable foe in the deeps of the Everwood, and believes it could hold the key to discovering the frenzy’s source.

In the meantime, take care of this pickle.

Quest Main Objective Location Subquest
Advanced: Tyrant’s Maw Hunt a Deviljho Primal Forest Topple the monster while mounted

In times past I told you that if Deviljho appeared, you should Dung Bomb it and run away, but that thinking is for children and it is now time to face the world’s most dangerous pickle.

Area 4 is where Deviljho awaits your challenge. Did you bring your Wystone?

While you were gone, an abnormally powerful Seregios was discovered.

The Ace Lancer was sorely defeated by it, and upon returning, will tell you it is time to go talk to the mysterious His Immenseness, who resides in the area of Dundorma that was always blocked off.

The Ace Lancer will give a very unsettling report of the Seregios that was discovered. Not only was it much faster and stronger, but it could create clouds of frenzy all by itself .

Turns out, just like you, monsters can overcome the frenzy virus and if they do, just like you, they will attain new heights of power and become Apex.

This is no ordinary Seregios, this is an Apex Seregios and it has become a reservoir for the frenzy virus!

What’s worse, Kushala Daora has been spotted and Dundorma is facing an impending attack! There’s no time. The Ace Hunters will hold the fort down, but you have to go defeat the Apex Seregios. Good luck!

Quest Main Objective Location
URGENT: Death of a Thousand Cuts Hunt a Seregios Everwood

Apex Seregios is incredibly aggressive. Bring a Wystone, you will need it. Apex monsters will flinch less, are impossible to capture, and are far more aggressive and move incredibly quickly.

When you get back, Dundorma is ready to confront Kushala Daora.

Quest Main Objective Location
URGENT: Kushala Kushowdown Repel a Kushala Daora Battlequarters

This is a scripted battle that doesn’t really involve so much of getting up close and personal in Kushala Daora’s face so much as following the script and firing a bunch of big guns.

You use a Tracking Cannon that the Ace Hunters will help you reload. After a while, you will have access to the Dragonator , and then the Demolisher will be the big finisher.

Congratulations! You have finished the main storyline of the solo campaign. Check out all the other quests, though, and don’t leave just yet:
