Big Pot on the Volcano: Dive In!

By

Path to the Meat Plateau

There will be a checkpoint flag immediately in front of you when the new area rises from the lava. You will notice some holes in the grounds, with Lava Bubbles jumping out of them, as well as a Hammer Bro in the distance and an unlit brazier on a platform in front of you. The first thing you should do is capture the Lava Bubble right there and jump onto the brazier, which will spawn a Power Moon (Light the Lantern on the Small Island) . Capture another Lava Bubble, preferably the one to your west at the flag, and jump into the lava to your south. You can see a small hole here, which leads to three purple coins (54) .

You should see two more purple coins in the air to the north of your current location. To get them, you can get one of the two Lava Bubbles around the two isolated metal grate platforms, jump into the hole with lava just to the north, then use the Magmatos as “platforms” to reach the coins (56) . Now, head east to the open sea of lava to find seven purple coins above the middle portion (63) .

Remote Island in the Lava

Near your location is a note that spawns smaller notes, so go ahead and do that. The smaller notes are easy enough to get and the timer isn’t too tight, netting yourself a Power Moon (Taking Notes: Swimming in Magma) . Doing this task will bring you to a remote island, so touch the checkpoint flag and let’s begin exploring this small island. First of all, there is a cannon at the top that is shooting giant peppers at you, so you will need to avoid them. There’s a NPC right by the flag who is in dire need of help. On this little island, there are cracks in the ground that you can ground pound to make them go away.

The NPC wants you to do just that, with there being a total of six cracks. Once you finish with that, grab the moon that spawns (All the Cracks Are Fixed) , then enter the pipe to encounter another 8-bit mural. Don’t worry about the peppers rolling around above you, as they can’t hurt you. The first obstacle in the mural is two Hammer Bros, in typical Super Mario Bros fashion. Get rid of them, then jump off the top row of blocks to get the three purple coins (66) . Go down the pipe to arrive on a moving platform, which moves slightly to the left.

You’ll need to avoid some fireballs while it’s going, so keep an eye out for them. Continue left and as the room bends, you will come across some fireballs coming out of the ceiling. There’s not much there and when you get past those, the moon is right there (Beneath the Rolling Vegetables) . You can exit the mural by a hole in the wall just left of the moon. There’s one more thing here, which is a painting on the northeastern side of the island. This one will always lead you to the Mushroom Kingdom, on an island in the sky isolated from the mainland. Use your hat to put out the fire, then walljump up the inside of the chimney to reach the Power Moon (Secret Path to Peach’s Castle!) .

Exit back to Luncheon Kingdom and travel southwest via a Lava Bubble to a tiny island. There is nothing here but a scarecrow and a door, so toss your hat at the scarecrow to open the door. The majority of the platforms here are on skewers and will rotate, so you’ll need to be extra careful in traversing the area. It’s made more difficult as you don’t have Cappy, so you don’t get that little bit of safety netting. Get past the first two skewers and onto some circular platforms. On the biggest one will be a familiar note, but things are a bit different here with the smaller notes.

All but four of the smaller notes spawn on the side of the circular platform, making it so you’ll have to hang off the ledge to gather them. The easiest way to do this is collect the four normal ones, then do a standing double jump to grab the ledge and just shimmy around it to get the others. Nab the Power Moon (Taking Notes: Spinning Athletics) , then your next objective is to get to the end, but there are three purple coins along the way. They are on the second skewer past the circular platforms and rotate along with the skewer, so you might need to wait to get them (69) . At the end of the entire area, grab the Power Moon (Spinning Athletics End Goal) and leave.

Swimming in Magma

From the current tiny island, you can see another door in the distance off to the southwest, which is where you will be going next. Capture the Lava Bubble at the tiny island and swim over to the door, going inside. This sub-area involves you using Lava Bubbles to swim across precarious smaller than normal platforms, some of which will be moving. Capture one of the two Lava Bubbles at the start, then jump up the ledges to reach the first moving one, which is a small square. Carefully jump to it, then to the next section, which has a little tower of sorts on the right side.

In this section, you will want to recapture a Lava Bubble if you lost the previous one, then use the Magmatos to get to the right side, where you’ll find a Power Moon at the top of the little tower (Crossing to the Magma) . The next section is a bunch of narrow pathways that can be treacherous to cross, but move slowly if you want. Grab the three purple coins at the one dead end (72) , then continue on to the very end of the entire area, where you can grab yet another Power Moon (Magma Narrow Path) .

Exit the sub-area and grab the fork right next to the door to fling yourself to another three purple coins (75) and reach the ledge above. Capture the Hammer Bro hopping around and get to the part behind the mountain here to spy another cheese block. Destroy it with the frying pans to reveal a turnip, which happens to be a golden one. You might as well bring this back to the pot in Peronza Plaza now, just to save a little bit of time later, earning yourself the final golden turnip Power Moon (Golden Turnip Recipe 3) . Double back to the area and climb the cliffs to happen upon a big slab of meat at the top, which is covered with salt.

Spam the B button to shake off the salt, which will trigger the giant bird to swoop down and carry you off to the top of the volcano. You’ll be dropped in the giant pot, on top of the meat you freed prior to this. You can either hop across the pieces of food to get to the Multi Moon, or you can simply long jump into a hat toss/dive to reach the Multi Moon area. Either way, collect the Multi Moon (Big Pot on the Volcano: Dive In!) and the bird will blow you off the volcano, back to the Odyssey.
