With your Watch now at Rank D, there’s a ton of stuff you can do in both Springdale and Blossom Heights. One thing you will notice is that you can find Rank D Yokai around the town, with there being quite a lot of them that are new to you. You also have a bunch of new Requests, as well as a few Favors, but only one of them is really important, Fusion Time . Finishing this Request will open up the ability for you to use two Yokai together, a Yokai and item, and even two items.

At the moment, it’s possible to fuse 6 new Yokai from those you can befriend in the wild or from ones you have on hand (7 possible combinations, but two of them require Jibanyan and you can’t befriend a wild one until the postgame). The majority of them are B Ranked Yokai, but two (Betterfly and Reuknight) are Rank A. Check the Evolution and Fusion section for more info. You also have access to new areas from the Rank D Watch Locks, one of which is inside of the Old Mansion.

Befriend Roughraff (left) and you will be able to fuse him together with Jibanyan to create a Baddinyan (right).

Once you’ve done all you have wanted to, it’s time to continue with the story. It seems Bear has lost his mother’s ring in Catfish Pond and you agree to help out. One suggestion is to get a Yokai that can swim to fetch it for you, so Whisper says to go to the riverbank and search for one. When you get there, you overhear some women talk about a flying plate and Whisper think it’s a kappa. Follow the shore down until you spot a sunflower, so use your Lens to reveal it to be a Walkappa. Talk to him and he’ll hand over a fishing rod if you agree to help get some fish for him.

Fishing is pretty much the same as catching bugs, but you need to be near water, of course. The only difference is that you need something called Fish Bait to add more notches to the wheel minigame (you probably have quite a few by now). Anyway, you need to catch a total of three Carp, which is distinguishable by two groups of three notches and one lone notch. Remember that a spot with a Yokai will not have any fish, so ignore them and concentrate on getting the Carp. If you’ve run out of spots to fish, you can always save and quit to the title screen, then reload to refresh the fishing spots. Bring him the three Carp and he’ll join your team.

With your new friend, head to Catfish Pond and watch the ensuing cutscene, which leads right to a boss!

BOSS - SV Snaggerjag

This boss isn’t particularly deadly, but it can definitely be a long and drawn-out battle. Unlike the last few boss battles, Snaggerjag only has one target on him, so you don’t need to switch around to find a weak spot. The bad news is that he can make some fish appear with Takin’ It All. There will be three different fishes, with each of them doing something different. Shuter (blue) will do nothing but use Squirt Gun, hitting one of your Yokai for water damage. Meditatum (greenish) will continually heal Snaggerjag, so you should always target that one to avoid losing too much damage yourself.

Grumpus (red) will do nothing but physical attacks. Meanwhile, in between summoning more help, Snaggerjag will perform a single-target physical attack of his own. The only caveat to this whole battle will be if two of the fish he summons are on the battlefield for a prolonged period of time, which will trigger his Soultimate attack, A Fisher’s Life , hitting all three of your front row Yokai for big damage. As long as you keep an eye on your health and don’t leave two fish on the screen for too long, this battle won’t take long.

The fish that Snaggerjag will bring into the battle should be taken out as soon as possible.

After the battle is over, exit Mt. Wildwood to view a cutscene, bringing this chapter to a close.
