Before we get stuck into the campaign, I figured that i would give you a quick primer on the various types of enemies you will encounter along the way throughout Assassin’s Creed Rogue. I occasionally refer to them by the names below, so be sure to read up to avoid confusion!

There are several types of enemies that you will encounter in the game and each enemy variety behaves in slightly different ways. Here’s the basic rundown of the different enemies you are likely to encounter during your time in the North Atlantic:

Regulars

The stock standard regular guards. They have very little armour, but will often roam in patrol groups. They can be instantly killed by a counter-kill.

Snipers

Snipers are regular guards armed with rifles. They often appear on rooftops or in guard towers and will take pot shots at you once Shay is detected. It is possible to identify when they are about to shoot at you by the icon above their head – as it fills up, they are aiming and when it is full, they will shoot. They can be taken down in the same way as a regular guard, but you need to get to them first!

Agile

These fellows appear like regular guards, but often wear wigs, are armed with a pair of knives and adopt a more aggressive stance. They can be countered and killed in the same way that a regular guard can, but their attacks are usually harder to counter as they occur in quick succession.

Regulars (left) often patrol around in groups. Agile enemies are quick and use knives (right).

Captains

Captains wear the triangular, feathered hats and are often quite adept at swordplay and deflecting your attempts to counter attack them. They are usually immune to kill chains, guard breaks and counter-melee attacks. As this is the case, countering and disarming them is often effective, but shooting them from range or sneaking up and assassinating them can save you a lot of headaches!

Brutes

These fellows are the large enemies wielding axes. They take quite a bit of damage to take down and are immune to kill chain attacks and counter-kills. Instead, you need to use the guard break attack in order to put them off balance before following up with regular attacks to finish them off.

Stalkers

stalkers are a new addition in Assassin’s Creed Rogue and they are essentially assassin types. They will often lay in wait, sitting in stalking zones or hiding areas and will launch surprise attacks if you get too close to them. Fortunately, the game allows you to know when they are nearby as you will hear a whispering noise – using Eagle vision at this point will allow you to pinpoint their location. Counter killing them is the way to go, however if you can detect them before they attack, you can use any means at your disposal to deal with them.

Brutes carry around a big axe (left). Stalkers are often hiding but can be detected via Eagle vision (right)
