Hidden Tax

Suggested Level: 6

You’ll find this quest in Yamu’s market, just southeast of the blacksmith, where you’ll find a woman named Ebio fruitlessly beseeching nearby peasants for aid. Talk to her and she’ll tell you that her husband went missing while poking about some island ruins east of Yamu. Accept, then track the quest, after which turn east from where you found Ebio to locate some boats you can use. Safer and faster than swimming through hippo and crocodile-infested waters. Hop on one of the vessels and press [Triangle] or [Y] to commandeer the ship, steer with the [Left Analog], hold [R2] or [RT] to sail faster and hold [Circle] or [B] to let go of the oar. It should be noted that you can press [L2] or [LT] to aim your bow at any time, allowing you to indulge in some archery without having to abandon the steering position.

Sail east towards the search area that engulfs the majority of a large, nearby island and when you’re close enough, deploy Senu and use the golden reticle of justice to spot your target… and note the Hard Leather resource markers floating around in the water. These are either hippos (three Hard Leather) or crocodiles (4 Hard Leather), and despite their fearsome reputation in reality, if you’re well-equipped and of a decent level, two headshots should suffice to kill them. Still, an angry hippo can sink your ship frighteningly fast, and two crocodiles can stun-lock you to death, so it pays to be somewhat cautious.

Speaking of which, sail over to where Senu spotted Klaudios to find that he’s been chased onto a pillar by some crocodiles. As you approach, an Eradication Zone event begins, obliging you to kill the crocodiles in the water nearby, of which there are several. Stay at a distance and pick them off with a Predator Bow if possible, then be sure to loot their Hard Leather if you desire upgrades for your Breastplate. You might as well also dive to score a submerged red chest, and if you want to be efficient, synchronize with the nearby fast travel point on the northern end of the island. Once done, sail near Klaudios’s pillar and chat with the dangerously inebriated man.

After the short chat, hop back in your boat and Klaudios will follow you, chatting incessantly as you sail back to Yamu, although he’s far from lucid, and his memory leaves much to be desired. Return to Yamu and talk to his wife, at which point Klaudios will remember why he fled to the island, and the woman’s ruse - and her angry brothers - will show up to collect what they’re “owed”. Fight them off - just because they’re using their fists doesn’t mean you have to - after which the woman will protest, and Klaudios will hopefully have learned a lesson about drinking with strangers.

It’s not a good idea to fight the crocodiles up close (left). When you get back, you must fight off some soldiers (right) to complete the mission.

Reward (For completing the quest “Hidden Tax”)

The year is 48 BCE, and both Rome and Ptolemaic Egypt are torn by civil wars. In the chaos caused by this political upheaval, a shadowy conspiracy seeks the mysteries buried under the sands of Egypt, not sparing any who stand in the way of their ambitions. One such aggrieved individual, Bayek, a Medjay from Siwa, now seeks revenge against this secret organization. Ultimately going back to the origins of the Assassin’s Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed Origins is a rebirth of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, adding a vast open world, a revamped combat system and RPG elements to the prolific stealth-action series.
