Job and Ability List (Part 2)

Ranger (Hunting)

This furry hunter preys on its enemies with abilities that target family types. It has good Strength, Dexterity and Agility, making it a potent physical attacker. Just give it your best bow and you’re all good to go!

Certainly, the Ranger is good at what it does; it has several abilities that do additional damage to certain families of enemies, from bugs to demon-kind. For best results, use the Freelancer’s Examine to check the enemy’s family, although some will be obvious from a glance–like a Poison Moth is sure to be a bug.

Sadly Rangers have no abilities that target humanoid and inorganic enemies, so they will be less useful against those type of enemies (especially the asterisk holders). But against mobs of the other families, Rangers will be right at home.

Specialty: Hawkeye

Raise Accuracy by 100% (in other words, doubles Accuracy). This ability doesn’t sound useful, but it’s good for keeping your number of hits up.

Level 1: Targeting

Type : Command

Cost : 12 MP

Attack one enemy, ignoring the damage reduction from Default and do 1.25 time the damage. Note: The description in the Job menu doesn’t mention the Default-piercing effect. This ability is an effective way of doing extra damage and causing pain to enemies that often Default.

Level 2: Bug Slayer

Type : Command

Cost : 8 MP

Attack one enemy; deals 1.5 times damage if used on a member of the bug family. Those scorpions and moths pose little threat with your Ranger around.

Level 3: Plant Slayer

Type : Command

Cost : 8 MP

Attack one enemy; deals 1.5 times damage if used on a member of the plant family. Slice and dice those walking mushrooms, trees and flowers.

Level 4: Beast Slayer

Type : Command

Cost : 8 MP

Attack one enemy; deals 1.5 times damage if used on a member of the beast family. Quick, fend off those dangerous wolves and bears!

Level 5: Paralyse Immunity

Type : Support

Cost : 1 slot

Gives your character immunity to Paralyse. Save yourself much frustration against those horrible enemies that cause Paralyse, which prevents your characters from moving for a number of turns.

Level 6: Aerial Slayer

Type : Command

Cost : 8 MP

Attack one enemy; deals 1.5 times damage if used on a member of the aerial family. Anything up in the air won’t stay in the air for long after you use a bunch of this.

Level 7: Aquatic Slayer

Type : Command

Cost : 8 MP

Attack one enemy; deals 1.5 times damage if used on a member of the aquatic family. Enjoy your sea cruise, as you make the sea-life sink and not swim.

Level 8: Bow Lore

Type : Support

Cost : 1 slot

Raises the arms aptitude for Bows to S. Now your character can gain the highest Attack bonus for Bows in any job.

Level 9: Dragon Slayer

Type : Command

Cost : 8 MP

Attack one enemy; deals 1.5 times damage if used on a member of the dragon family. Earn your name as a legendary Dragon Slayer with this ability under your belt.

Level 10: Undead Slayer

Type : Command

Cost : 8 MP

Attack one enemy; deals 1.5 times damage if used on a member of the undead family. Keep the ghouls and zombies at bay with a few shots of this.

Level 11: Demon Slayer

Type : Command

Cost : 8 MP

Attack one enemy; deals 1.5 times damage if used on a member of the demon-kind family. The demons will be the one fearing you when you rain a few of these their way.

Level 12: Hawkeye

Type : Support

Cost : 1 slot

Raise Accuracy by 100% (in other words, doubles Accuracy). Helps to keep number of hits high, especially for weapons with low Accuracy like Axes.

Level 13: Precision

Type : Support

Cost : 2 slots

When using the Attack command, if all the hits reach their target, the damage is increased by 3% times the number of hits. If the character is capable of 5 hits and scores all 5 hits, their damage is increased by 15%. Best you can get without raising the cap is 16 hits for 48% extra damage; not bad! You will need excellent Accuracy to make use of this ability.

Level 14: Multiburst

Type : Command

Cost : 1 BP

Hit random enemies with four physical attacks that do 0.6 times damage each. Not a bad move at all, considering you’re doing 2.4 times damage for expending 2 turns. It’s mainly good for assaulting mobs.
