Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past Guide

LArca Scenario

LArca (Present)

When you return to your own time and sail to the island with the town of L’Arca on it, you will find that it is heavily populated with animals, almost as if your hard work in the past didn’t amount to anything. However, looks are a bit deceiving, so take the time to explore the town before settling on the main bit here. Go into the back door of the item shop to find a Medicinal Herb in one of the pots there, then go upstairs to find some Plain Clothes in the drawer (the chest is empty).

You’ll notice a lack of merchants available, in both the item and equipment shops, but there’s something very important in the latter. Find the back door to the equipment shop and pick up the Green Fragment on the floor. The barrels next to the inn will have 15 gold coins in them and the house in the northwest corner will have another 5 gold coins in the single pot there, while the little shack in the northeast corner will have 30 gold coins in one of the barrels.

Enter the big house in the northeast corner to initiate a cutscene that explains the animal situation happening in the town (grab the Seed of Resilience from the pot in the storage room). The people of the town celebrate the past by dressing up as animals, and you will be able to participate in the festivities yourself. After Mimi moves from the drawer, go over to it to change into some pig costumes! Exit the house and in the center of the town, you will be able to play a short mini-game.

After turning into pigs (left), you can participate in the mini-game to find the women disguised as animals (right).

Your task is to find the three women amongst the six people standing in line. There are really no clues that make it easy to distinguish them, so you will have to resort to trial and error, as you can take as many tries as you want without fear of losing in the end. The biggest problem with this mini-game is that there are two cows that are the exact same and once you reveal any of the women, all of the animals change positions, making it harder to find the right one of the two.

Thus, your first guess should be one of the two cows to eliminate them right off the bat (the left of the two is the correct one). The other two correct choices are easier to get, as you will want to pick the horse and the dog. Your prize for successfully completing this mini-game is the Big Book of Beasts , which will act as your bestiary; use it like any other item to view it. The festival is over and you can purchase items and equipment now, so do so, as there are some upgrades.

Revisiting the Grotto

Back on the worldmap, visit the building near L’Arca to find 15 gold coins in one of the breakables inside, then go to the western section of the island. There is a chest at the end of the path, past the poisoned water near the Grotto’s entrance, containing a Seed of Strength . Head inside the Grotto and at the first split, go east to find a chest with Stone Fangs inside; if you didn’t buy these at the town, equip them to Ruff for an attack boost.

In the room with the two doorways, there is another chest in the southeast corner that contains 120 gold coins . Go through the southern of the two doorways and there will be another chest with a Mini Medal (#5) in it. There’s nothing else in the dungeon until you get to go outside, so once you get there, go all the way around to the doorway at the end to find a chest inside with Bunny Ears . All that’s left is to go to where you fought the boss in the past to find a familiar (well, not the exact same) face, who ends up giving you a Blue Fragment . It’s time to move on to the next area of the game…
