Tips and Tricks

This page will contain all sorts of miscellaneous information that will help you out on your journey across Orience.

  • Save often! Yes, the old adage for any RPG is to save as often as you can, as you never know when something might go wrong. This is important during Free Time sections, as you can test out to see who will give better items than other characters. In missions, it is even more important, since save points are scattered throughout and you don’t want to end up having an important character die.

  • You want a well-balanced party of characters. Most of the time you can bring three characters into battle, along with the rest of your party as reserves. You definitely should bring along a ranged character, as well as a character that can do magic/healing. The third party member is up to you, but a melee character is ideal, preferably one with strong attacks.

  • Dodge, dodge and dodge some more! Dodging is one of the more important mechanics of battling in the game, as you will die A LOT if you don’t. Four important skills that every character has access to that they should learn immediately are Accelerate, Triple Slip, Slipstream and Untouchable, which enhance the player’s ability to dodge.

  • When they open up, make sure you do Moglin’s Lectures before anything else, as the stat bonuses from them apply to all of your characters. Plus, on New Game+, you get more of them if you did them all on a previous playthrough.

  • Don’t fret over the time limit in between missions, as you won’t be able to do every single thing in the game on your first playthrough. This includes the Tasks, Expert Trials and the rest of the sidequests, some of which actually carry over to subsequent playthroughs.

  • Watch the enemies, as just spamming the attack button will not get you anywhere on some foes. Learn their attack patterns and keep an eye out for Breaksights/Killsights, with the latter instantly killing foes when hit.

  • Don’t use all of your favorite characters at once in your active party. No one is perfect at the game and it’s very possible for your characters to fall in battle, so keep some of your better characters in your reserves. This allows you to call on them in a pinch.

  • This isn’t a tip, as it’s more of a warning. The camera can be kind of sensitive…well, it’s very sensitive, so you’ll have to be careful how hard you spin it.

In an act of unprovoked aggression, the Militesi Empire invaded the Dominion of Rubrum. Imperial dreadnoughts swarmed the skies, assailing the unsuspecting countryside under the banner of the White Tiger. From amidst the flames of the besieged dominion, the Vermilion Bird rose in defiance, her crystal granting magic and mighty eidolons that her disciples might cast out the technologically advanced aggressors. Thrust into the tumult of war, the fate of the world and its four crystals now rests on the shoulders of fourteen brave, young warriors.
