The Journal

The Journal

You’ll be spending a lot of time in the Journal screen during your adventures in Midgard, accessed with the [Touchpad] button. As you can see, there’s a lot of information available to you here as Atreus chronicles your journey, let’s take a quick look at what you can find:

The WEAPONS and ARMOR tabs are where you can view and change what Kratos is equipping. On the right you will also see a box relaying Kratos’ stats, pressing the [L3] button will give you an explanation of each stat. For now, there’s not much you can do here and this will be covered in more depth later in the walkthrough.

The SKILLS tab is where you’ll find all of the skills available to Kratos. You’ll be able to see a short demonstation of the skill on the right along with how much XP is needed to unlock the skill.

The MAP tab will display an overview of Midgard and your current location within it. It displays useful information that keeps track of your completion rate for both the region and Midgard in total.

The GOALS tab is where you’ll find all the information on your tasks and adventures. Consider this the "Quests" page and it’s split into five more sections.

Journey is where you’ll find all the information related to the main story quest in God of War.

Favors are side quests, tasks given to you by other denizens of Midgard that are not directly related to the main story.

Labors are more like achievements such as total kills or using a certain skill, as you perform this skill or kill an enemy type for the first time, it will be added and recorded here.

Treasure Maps are small tasks related to deciphering the image found on the said map leading to great treasure.

Artefacts are all about collectibles, each region will have a themed set of collectibles to seek out and procure, rewarding XP upon it’s completion. On top of that, any Artefacts you find can be sold at a merchant for some much needed coin.

The CODEX tab provides details on the world of Midgard via the Lore section and helpful information on all enemies in the Bestiary section. The Bestiary will update with advice on how to defeat the enemies as your kill count increases.

Finally, the RESOURCES tab details any special items you’ve obtained and crafting resources.
