Main Story Walkthrough

The Prey

After fighting with Lord Hans Capon, you will find yourself outside the Trader’s Tavern with your first patrol completed. Sir Hanush has deemed that joining Lord Capon on a hunt would be good for both of you. Before you set off, though, you will need some sleep. Go to the refugee camp or Rattay Mill and sleep until dawn.

Now that you are fully rested, meet Lord Capon in the courtyard of the Upper Castle. Be sure to eat from a cooking pot before heading out; it is going to be a long day.

Follow Lord Capon north east along the road out of Rattay. Be sure to keep up so you can hear what he has to say.

After some time you will be fast travelled to the hunting grounds north of Rattay. When you arrive, Lord Capon will ask you to fetch some wine and bacon from his saddlebag. With the wine and bacon delivered, speak to Lord Capon and exhaust all of the dialogue options. By the time you are done it will be approaching night time. Get some sleep in one of the beds at the camp so you are fully rested for the hunt in the morning. If you are unable to sleep until dawn, wait for a few hours before sleeping.

Fetch the wine and bacon from Sir Capon's saddlebag.

When you wake in the morning Sir Capon will engage in a bit of banter with you, leading to the proposition of yet another contest; who can hunt the most hares. If you do not have a bow and arrows, take the supplies from the chest in the camp. You will also find some dried foodstuffs in there which will be useful on the hunt. It is a good idea to check your equipment for any items that might cause unecessary noise to ensure that the animals you hunt will be less skittish when you are nearby.

Use light armour with low noise ratings to reduce your visibility when hunting. If you are still having trouble remove everything except the bow and arrows.

Now that you are fully prepared, head out into the woods and search for hares. It is likely that you will encounter other animals along the way, but it is not a good idea to hunt them yet. Keep to hares to make sure that you are not weighed down by carrying the meat of larger prey. At this time the forest will still be untouched by the light of the sun, so you will have to look carefully for any movement on the forest floor. Seek out open areas with fewer shrubs to have the best chances of spotting a hare.

Look for hares in open spaces away from shrubbery. They can be consistently found on roads and pathways.

Once you have found a target, do not get too close. Hares are not so easily startled as deer, and for some odd reason do not mind arrows whizzing passed their heads, but they do run away when they detect you. You will have plenty of opportunity to shoot from afar. Remember to aim higher than the target, and slightly to the right of it. After a few attempts you should get to grips with the trajectory of the arrows.

Be sure to loot the body of each hare to prove your kill and retrieve any arrows.

Continue to hunt hare throughout the forest until noon, at which point the quest objective will be updated and you will be instructed to return to the camp. You will now have to wait for Lord Capon to return. If you have nothing else to do you can speed the process up with the time dial; just wait an hour or so and he should be back at the camp. If you have collected more hare than him you will be rewarded with Groschen, the amount that you receive being proportionate to the amount of meat gathered.

Speak with Lord Capon to see if you managed to beat him in hunting hare.

If you managed to hunt a significant amount of hare, you will almost certainly be weighed down by the meat that you have collected. After collecting your reward you should put as much hare meat as necessary in the camp chest to restore a reasonable carry weight. You can now follow Lord Capon to the next hunting ground.

Follow Lord Capon until you reach the boar hunting grounds.

You will now have to watch as Lord Capon botches an attempt to kill a boar. As the boar runs away, Lord Capon will follow on horseback. Chase after him on foot until you see that you have failed to hunt down the boar (do not worry, it is impossible without a horse!). You must now find Lord Capon in the forest by following the map marker.

Note: If you have been using light armour while hunting, now is the time to equip any heavy armour and weapons that you have.

Lord Capon can be found at the camp within the highlighted region on the map.

As you approach the camp you will discover that Lord Capon has been captured by Cumans and is now tied to a tree. You must rescue him by assaulting the camp in any way that you see fit. If you are well equipped in weapons and armour and confident in your ability to fight multiple foes, you can simply charge the camp. Alternatively you can kill each Cuman with your bow by shooting from the nearby shrubbery, or attempt stealth kills if that option is available to you.

Once you have dealt with the Cumans, untie Lord Capon and speak to him.

When you return to Rattay you will be summoned to see Sir Hanush and Sir Radzig to receive a promotion.
Before you have a chance to celebrate, Captain Bernard brings urgent news of an attack at Neuhof.
