Last Day of June

The Hunter - Chasing the Bird

By
Scott Peers

This sequence begins with The Hunter inside his house, admiring the hunting medals beneath a bust of his father. A bird flies into the house and steals one of them, prompting The Hunter to pick up his gun and chase the bird around the village. Leave the house and try to call The Dog (who is at this stage distracted by The Kid and his ball). Turn right from the front door and go through the gateway at the end of the path. You will see a wooden bridge to the left, at the end of which is the first Hunter memory (1/5). After collecting it, go back to the front door of The Hunter’s house. Shoot at the bird in the tree to the left, prompting it to fly into the tree directly in front of the door. Shoot again and it will fly to the tree outside Carl and June’s house. It will fly away to the right, but do not chase it at this point.

Instead turn left and head toward The Old Man’s front garden, where the second Hunter memory is (2/5). Now go back toward the church and turn right. Go through the gate to where the tree is with the kite stuck in it. You will find the third memory (3/5) to the right as you enter, behind a pile of logs. Having collected three memories, go back to The Hunter’s house and follow the path to where the first memory was at the end of the wooden bridge. Go down the hill and open the latched gate from the inside to ensure that a Best Friend memory can be accessed later in the game. Now shoot at the bird in the tree. Follow it along the path to the next tree at the edge of the village and shoot at it once more. It will drop the medal in a nest on the cliff edge. Walk toward it and climb over the log to end the day and play out the tragedy.

The Kid

The sequence will begin at the point where The Kid is in front of The Dog who wants to play ball. Do not play ball with the dog during this sequence. Turn right and go to The Hunter’s house. As you enter the garden, turn right and go up to the gazebo where you will find the final Kid memory (5/5). This will unlock The Boy Who Lost His Friend. Now go to the church and knock over the vase behind The Old Man to end the day.

The Hunter

In this version of events The Dog will now be outside The Hunter’s house, since The Kid is now playing with his kite with The Old Man. The bird will tease the dog with the medal in its beak before flying into the tree to the left of the front door of the house. Go to the tree to the right and call the dog there. Now shoot at the bird in the tree. As it attempts to fly to the tree on the right, the dog will prompt it to fly to the tree on the path outside The Hunter’s house. Go to the tree outside Carl and June’s house (the one with the sign to the lake on it) and call the dog there. Shoot at the bird again and it will fly into the tree in front of The Best Friend’s truck.

Call The Dog to the specific trees as mentioned in this guide to direct the bird to its nest.

Shoot once more and it will fly to the tree beside the boom gate behind The Best Friend’s truck. Call the dog to the tree in front of The Best Friend’s truck and shoot at the bird again. As the bird flies away this time, a bunch of apples will fall into the boom gate platform, lifting it up and allowing you to pursue the bird. Run up the hill and call your dog to the tree on the left. Shoot at the bird and it will attempt to fly to the tree where the dog is. After seeing the dog it will fly to the tree opposite. Now call the dog to the other tree on the left. Shoot at the bird and it will fly further along the path.

Cross the wooden bridge and shoot at the bird in the final tree. It will then fly to its nest and drop the medal in it. At this stage you can not get to the nest due to a vase blocking the opening on the other side. However, there is a golden gate leading to the church which you can unlock. Go through it and then unlatch the gate next to it. Now go back to the gate with the vase behind it. You will notice a white and blue rope behind it, but this is irrelevant at this stage. Go to the right of the rope under two archways and walk over the unsteady plank of wood. This will initiate the end of the sequence as you fall into a batch of hay.

The bird will drop the medal into its nest, but you will not be able to access it just yet. Read on.

Carl

Back in the painting room with Carl, interact with the painting of The Kid and choose to rewind.

The Kid

You will start in the usual place in front of The Kid’s house, only this time The Dog is not in front of you to play ball. With your ball in hand, go to the boom gate beside The Best Friend’s house. Now that The Hunter has opened it, you can go through and run up the hill toward the bird nest with the medal in it. Before going to the top, run up the hill to the left and knock over the two vases with your ball. This will grant access to a memory for The Best Friend later in the game. Now run over the wooden bridge toward the bird nest. Knock over the vase that is blocking the hole in the fence to the left of the tree. Now you can run into the area where the bird nest is. Next, knock over the vase which was blocking The Hunter from opening the gate. Go back through the hole in the fence and knock over the vase at the bottom of the stone stairs in the direction of the church, granting access to a Hunter memory later in the game. Now run back to the church and knock over the vase behind The Old Man to end the day and play out the rest of the tragedy.

(1 of 2) Knock over the vase blocking the gate to enable The Hunter to enter in the next sequence.

The Best Friend

You will start in front of the truck with box in hand. First, place the box in the back of the truck. Now go into The Hunter’s front garden and turn left. Walk along the path until you come to the wooden bridge, then turn left and go down the hill. At the bottom of the hill turn right. Here you will find the second Best Friend memory (2/5). Go back to the truck near The Best Friend’s house, and through the boom gate behind it. Go up the hill and turn left to find the third Best Friend memory (3/5). Go back down the hill and over the wooden bridge toward the bird nest with the medal in it. Turn right toward the direction of the church and collect the fourth memory (4/5) from the bottom of the stone stairs. Turn around and walk through the golden gate leading into the area where the blue and white rope is to find the final memory (5/5), unlocking Time For a New Start. Pick up the blue and white rope and take it back to the truck. Tie it around the boxes to end the day and play out the rest of the tragedy.

The Hunter

You will start in The Hunter’s house as usual. Go outside and call The Dog to the tree on the right. Shoot at the bird and it will automatically proceed to the stage where the bird has put the medal in its nest. You will be teleported in front of the hole in the fence which The Kid climbed under to get into the area where the nest is. Before going to the nest, turn around and walk up to the top of the stone stairs to find the fourth Hunter memory (4/5). Go back down the stairs and through the golden gate on the left. Then enter the area where the bird nest is to discover the final Hunter memory (5/5), unlocking Under the Shadow of My Father. Once you have collected all the memories, interact with the bird nest to end the day and play out the rest of the tragedy (unlocks Why Won’t This Work?!).

Carl

You will awake again as Carl in the chair in his living room, more frustrated than ever by the fact that nothing has changed. Go into the painting room and interact with the painting of June to see another version of the tragic car crash, in which all scenarios caused by the other characters are avoided, but autumn leaves blocking Carl’s view of the road and a strike of lighting causes him to swerve. When the cut scene has ended, go outside to The Old Man’s house and interact with the floating painting of him. You can now go back to the painting room and interact with the canvas that will transform into The Old Man, allowing you to play out the day from his perspective.

Carl and June are a young couple living the perfect life together in an idyllic mediterranean-esque rural village. The sun always seems to shine on them, but on a day when their first child begins to manifest through June’s pregnancy, the rain begins to fall leading to her catastrophic death in a car crash. Where light once shone now sorrow overwhelms. Carl is left alone in an irrevocably marred world, powerless to do anything other than dwell on his sudden misery. His thoughts linger on the moment of the crash; what could he have done to save her? As time and space seem to cease, a number of portals reveal themselves through June’s paintings, allowing Carl to trace the events of the tragedy from the perspective of those who played some key role leading up to the crash. With this unexpected power, he must now work through the memories contained within the portals to save his beloved June and their child.

This guide will take you through the story of Last Day of June in a way which allows you to collect all the achievements and memories associated with each character without having to go back through the story unnecessarily.
