Questing Havarl


A New Avenue of Research

To start this quest you’ll need to complete the quests "A Dying Planet" (which of course requires you to complete "Helping Havarl’s Scientists") and then "Cross-Cultural Alliances". After those are all complete, make your way south from the Pelaav Research Station to find two Nexus Scientists busily studying a dead Adhi. They’re terribly interested in Havarl’s hyper-active evolution, but unfortunately, some jerk put a stop to all that. Ahem. While the outcome of Havarl’s haywire ecosystem wasn’t ideal, the process is of great interest to the Andromeda Initiative, as such an application - properly controlled - could be put to productive ends… that is, if samples can be scanned before the accelerated lifeforms all die off.

Needless to say, this is where you come in, and to start things off you’ll need to head into the main structure of the Pelaav Research Center and peek at a Genetic Archive Database, which will give you the targets you need to scan - a Mutated Challyrion, a Mutated Rylkor and a Mutated Eiroch. Upload all three files to get their navpoints, after which it’s time to go hunting!

Hunting Mutant Strains

The Challyrion should be your first target, as… well, it’s the nearest to the Pelaav Research Station. Simply head north to find the beast in a cave near Raashel Vier’s home. Poor woman just can’t get a break. Despite what the quest suggests, there are several Mutated Challyrions here, most of which will merrily start out invisible and attack once you’ve engaged their visible fellow. Still, they’re just Challyrions with a fancy name. Put them down, then scan them - there’s enough of them that you don’t really have to worry about burning up the corpses or any other complications.

Return to the Pelaav Research Station and from there head east to find the Mutated Rylkor. This dinosaur-like beastie is just east of the nearby Forward Station, and doesn’t pose much of a threat, being only capable of spitting acid (a defense more Heleus Cluster life seems to possess) and whipping you with its tail. Scan it from a distance while it’s still alive, if you can, but be wary, as two more of its fellows lurk nearby, along with other, random wildlife which may be lured by the fray.

The most dangerous of the beasts is a Mutated Eiroch (left). Kill it and the Roekaar also hunting it, then search their camp for intel, and a Roekaar Datapad (right).

The worst has been saved for last - Eirochs aren’t pushovers, especially not mutant freaks, and to find this beast you’ll need to travel to the land east of the trench. From the Forward Station there, simply head south and you’ll find your beast… and the Roekaar that are hunting it. This isn’t all bad, as they’ll likely occupy the Mutated Eiroch enough for you to scan it, just try not to get shot at too much and let the two sides fully engage each other. After you’ve got the scan, wait for the two sides to wear each other down, or just get to the business of killing. Either way, when you’re the last one left standing search the camp, as there’s a cave to the west with a Mineral Cache in it. In the camp itself you’ll find an Angaran Integrated Tech Node, and more importantly, a Roekaar Datapad.

Raiding Roekaar Research

Read the datapad to find out that the Roekaar are interested in the mutations infecting Havarl, but for entirely different reasons. Suffice to say, the Roekaar should not have this data. Return to the Forward Station and from it continue north to find a Roekaar camp in the northwestern corner of this part of Havarl.

The Roekaar camp, as usual, is on high ground, so quickly leap up to the same elevation and take cover behind some metal barricades the front of the camp, from which you can press your assault. The Roekaar are diverse, including Sharpshooters, Raiders and a Saboteur, as well as their pet Adhi. There’s also a chance that local wildlife will be present, complicating matters further. Put the enemies down and search the camp to find a lucrative container, a Mineral Cache and the Roekaar Datapad "Legacy" .

Once you have those goodies continue to the northern end of the camp, where you’ll get a search area helping you find your way to your destination. Up on a metal platform you’ll find two terminals, one of which - the Roekaar Genetic Research Log - has the data you’re after. Interact with the console and you’ll get two options; destroy the data outright and prevent it from ever being utilized for better or worse, or copy then delete the files so you, but not the Roekaar can utilize them. Either way, return to the researches to end the quest and earn 73 AVP, +5% Havarl viability and 530 XP.
