Questing Voeld

Task - Gone Dark

While exploring Voeld you’ll come across unmarked Kett bases, which may randomly have bugged Kett consoles in them. Yep, this quest is basically the Voeld version of quests like "Task - Data Trail". You know the drill, to advance this quest you’ll need to scan three such "Angaran Bugs", so be sure to check out Kett camps as you do other tasks. SAM will sometimes warn you about such devices, but don’t rely on your AI and check. As usual, a camp that once had such a device may later (given enough time and distance) respawn with another.

Warning!: Previously-scanned Angaran Bugs do not seem to be properly removed from the spawn rotor in this quest, so you may continuously find copies of Angaran Bugs that can’t be scanned. You’ll just have to keep searching until you find three unique bugs, which may take a while.

Note: After you scan all the Angaran bugs and get the updated navpoint, you’ll need to complete the quest "Remove the Heart" to continue with this quest.

Scan units of Kett tech for Angaran bugs (left) then investigate the caves leading to Ja Niihk to find a datapad containing useful intel (right).

Complete the quest "Remove the Heart" and clear the Kett base on Voeld to remove the barrier around Ja Niihk, after which you’ll be free to finish up this quest. Along the eastern edge of the map you’ll find a line of three Forward Stations. Fast travel to the northern-most one and from there drive southwest to reach Ja Niihk. There are likely Kett on the outskirts of this dig site, who will be clustered around towers with a Turret on them. There are also land mines embedded into the ice, but they tend to explode before the Nomad hits them, and they don’t do much damage in any event.

Fight your way through the aforementioned defenses to the northwestern edge of the ruins to find a trench descending into the ice of Voeld. Make your way downhill to the east, southeast, using Kett heating devices as guides, stopping only to nab the various nodes of Iridium that lie about. Eventually you’ll discover a search area, just descend until you fill all the search area bars near a gap to the east. At this gap turn southwest and enter a small, dead-end cave, inside which you’ll find a dead Angaran. Read his Datapad, then return to Intelligence Officer Kaas at the Resistance Base to earn 100 Heleus Research Data points, 270 XP and finally complete this quest.
