Akantor

By
Vincent Lau

Akantor, while classified as a flying wyvern, has lost its wings and become a flightless behemoth. No less fearsome, Akantor packs the power of an Elder Dragon, and even other Elder Dragons fear it and its catastrophic effects on the lands it attempts to invade. It calls Ingle Isle, a forsaken realm that is now uninhabitable, its home, but do you dare breach its territory to prevent it from destroying the rest of the Monster Hunter world?

Areas: Ingle Isle

Attacks

Akantor moves extremely slowly. Like, extremely slowly. And you thought your stubborn cat who won’t get off your keyboard moved slower! But when Akantor prepares for an attack, you’d better run. Akantor might not attack much or attack quickly, but, especially in rage mode, what it does is more than capable of bringing you from full health to no health. If Akantor moves to the far corner of Ingle Isle, do not attempt to chase it. Rather, begin sprinting, and prepare to dive when it unleashes its Sweeping Cyclonic Breath.

Charge: Akantor will slowly charge towards you. It can curve its path slightly to home in, so be prepared to dive to save yourself. Akantor will end its charge attack with a powerful bite. But if it does not, it will charge again.

Bite: Akantor will do a powerful bite, and sometimes do it multiple times. While it hits like a truck, it is the least threatening of its attacks.

Body Slam: Akantor will lift itself up, then come slamming down. Causes tremors and will deal massive damage.

Burrow: Akantor will burrow underneath the ground. It will not erupt in any dramatic fashion, however, it will merely emerge and then pull the rest of its massive girth from the ground and resume its usual patterns of attack.

Eruption: Sometimes when Akantor is underground, magma pools will open up in the ground and erupt into lava geysers. They are easy to see coming and don’t really home in on you.

Tusk Sweep: Akantor will begin what appears to be a side chomp, but will continue the attack by sweeping its head the other way, sending any unlucky hunter in its way—like you—flying through the air.

Tusk Bore: Akantor will charge forward, then jerk its head up to send you flying. This, like the rest of its attacks, does massive damage and will send you flying.

Cyclonic Breath: Akantor will fire a wind-tunnel like breath of pure wind straight out from its mouth. Dive to avoid.

Sweeping Cyclonic Breath: When Akantor travels to the edge of Ingle Isle, be prepared to dive. This attack will one-hit kill you. As it sweeps across the field, dive.

Breakable Parts

Tail: Akantor’s tail can be severed and carved twice.

Back Spikes: There are two sets, each can be broken.

Chest: A scar will appear and Akantor will take more damage after breaking the chest.

Tusks: Akantor’s tusks can be broken. They will have the tips chipped off.

Front Claws: Each front claw can be broken.

Weaknesses

Elemental: Dragon, Thunder
