Tobi-Kadachi

Tobi-Kadachi General Information

You’ll first encounter the Tobi-Kadachi during the aptly named assignment Flying Sparks: Tobi-Kadachi, after which you should unlock the quest The Current Situation. After the assignment One for the History Books you should also unlock the Special Arena, one of the quests for which includes Special Arena: Tobi-Kadachi. As for High Rank, after defeating the High Rank Pukei-Pukei in the mandatory High Rank expedition to the Wildspire Waste, you should unlock the quest A Hair-Raising Experience and Special Arena: HR Tobi-Kadachi

Tobi-Kadachi Strengths and Weaknesses

Tobi-Kadachi follows the tried-and-true pattern of wyvern weakness, with its head and tail both being vulnerable to damage, although, oddly enough, the tail is more receptive to damage than the head. The head, body and front limbs and tail are all breakable.

It should come as no surprise that Tobi-Kadachi is resistant to Thunder, and vulnerable to Water.

While not being resilent to any ailments, Tobi-Kadachi is noteable vulnerable to Poison.

Tobi-Kadachi is a fast enemy that can take to the air frequently via glides and jumps, perhaps making it a hard target to hit with slower weapons. Ranged weapons fare unusually well here, as its tail is a large, soft target and it’s easier to reliably strike it with such a weapon - the Bow, specifically, allows you to continuously deal damage while not hindering your ability to dodge.

Many of the Tobi-Kadachi’s attacks are enhanced with Thunder damage, so seek to protect yourself accordingly. A high Thunder Resistance score (20+) will not only reduce the damage you take, but render you immune to Thunderblight, which Tobi-Kadachi can inflict. If you are afflicted with Thunderblight you’ll get stunned by attacks more easily, so bring Nulberries along if you can’t get your Thunder Resistance high enough.

Tobi-Kadachi Attacks

The Tobi-Kadachi is an odd monster. Part reptile, part fox, part… flying squirrel? Whatever it is, it’s quicker than anything you’ve fought before, and especially in its lair, it’s fond of clinging to and leaping/gliding between vertical surfaces. It doesn’t just use this mobility for getting around, however, but lightning fast bites, dives and charges as well, although if you’re quick, you can shoot him with your Slinger while he’s gliding to knock him out of the air. Speaking of lightning… this monster has an affinity for thunder, and can charge itself with static electricity, dealing extra damage with certain attacks (particularly those involving its tail) and inflicting Thunderblight, which will make it easier to stun you.

As mentioned earlier, the Tobi-Kadachi moves around quite a bit, constantly lunging, biting and charging when it’s facing you, but it’s also willing enough to settle for spin attacks and tail swipes if you’re behind it. Attacking from the flank is the safest bet, then, and in general you should take a more conservative, measured approach to this fight. Don’t risk any large attack chains unless you’re sure you can get away with it, keep moving, and if you lose sight of it, dodge constantly until you have it back in your sights - chances are, it’s up to no good. Especially start dodging if you see it take to the air, as it has a spinning tail smash attack that’s best avoided.

While Tobi-Kadachi can drop a Wyvern Gem, it’s arguably easier to obtain from the Barroth or Jyuratodus. Other than that, the Tobi-Kadachi Electrode+ may be required in some quantities for various useful arms and armor, and while they’re not terribly rare (three-star carve), it may take a few goes to get all you need. Breaking the head and tail have a chance to earn you more of these.
