Battle Flow

Battle Royal sets itself apart from the Battle Tree due to its unique battling style. It’s not available anywhere else, not even in any other game, so let’s discuss it together so you know what you are getting into and how to maximize your wins.

Four Pokemon Free-For-All

You will be pitted against three other trainers, making it a free-for-all where just about anything goes. You can attack anybody and anybody could be attacking you. It’s not unusual to see NPCs ganging up on each other, or you, or to see your potential wins get “killstolen”, depriving you of precious points needed to secure first place.

Moves that affect both enemies in a Double Battle, such as Earthquake, will hurt the entire field (except you, of course). However the power cut is drastic: Earthquake will hit for only half power it would normally, compared to Double Battles where power is cut by about 30%.

Moves like Follow Me and Spotlight will work the same. Using Follow Me will attract everyone to you (probably a bad idea), but using a move like Spotlight will attract everyone to whoever got spotlit. That…might be a good idea.

Battle Ends when One Falls

This is not a last-man-standing death match! The Battle Royal match ends as soon as one trainer is fully defeated. Victory is tallied by who has the most number of Pokemon left, and the number of KOs everyone was able to get.

This obviously has huge implications for your battle strategy. NPCs killstealing you can easily swipe victory from under your nose, but on the other hand, you do not need to survive the whole fight.

You instead will want to blitz first to get KOs, and protect your Pokemon from being targeted in response. This adds a whole new layer of strategy and can make the Battle Royal really fun! As long as you are not the first one down, you have a fighting chance at victory!
