The Festival Plaza is available as soon as you get your "Rotom" IconRotom Pokedex and is its own compartmentalized world. It is important because it contains all of the social features of the game. This is how you access the GTS, Wonder Trade, online battles, and more!

Not only that, but you can also build up your own castle with facilities of varying use, and it will level up as you interact with players from all around the world. Facilities can do anything from give you free items, EV train your Pokemon, level them up faster, and even dye your clothes colors you can’t otherwise get.

Let’s dive straight into what the Festival Plaza can do for you.

Battle or Trade

Once in the Festival Plaza, your touch screen will change to reflect your ability to interact with other players. The two biggest buttons are Battle and Trade.

Battle lets you battle with other players, either locally or online, depending on how you’re currently connected. You can challenge your friends or castle visitors to a battle if they’re available, or you can hook up with someone random online.

You can set your own rulesets when battling online with friends. For those who are ready to dive neck deep into battling, try your hand at the official tournaments and seasons frequently offered by Game Freak.

Trade will let you trade Pokemon with friends or guests. Wonder Trade lets you trade with a random stranger and can be a very fun way to send off, say, unwanted Pokemon from a breeding project. The GTS is a classic staple of the trading hub, letting you deposit Pokemon and request another Pokemon in exchange.

You can Link Trade to trade with a specific special someone, but if that someone is in the same room as you, you’re better off using the Quick Link option in the default menu instead of via Festival Plaza.

Use Festival Coins for Facilities

The Festival Plaza has its own unique currency, Festival Coins. Check out its own page further down in the guide. You can use Festival Coins to buy goods and services from the facilities. Unfortunately, you can never expand how many facilities you can have so make sure your circular castle counts.

Earn Festival Coins by socializing with people! Talk to people, answer their questions, and you’ll get a hefty amount of FC. You also get FC from doing things like Wonder Trade. The amount of FC you receive has been bumped up from Sun & Moon so it’s a lot easier to get a lot of FC faster. You also can get tons of FC from the Battle Agency.
