Expedition Mode is a new addition to the game that focuses on replaying segments of the campaign whilst attempting to earn medals for reaching benchmark high scores and challenge the world with the global leader boards. It features additional challenges which you can undertake to make things more interesting as well as collect and utilise hundreds of Expedition Cards which can be activate to modify the game in a variety of ways.

There are 10 achievements/trophies tied into this game mode and they revolve around earning specific numbers of medals, collecting a large number of Expedition Cards and completing challenges. All in all they are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve listed them below anyway, you know, because I’m cool like that.

Way to Go, Gilded, Well Begun is Half Done and Golden Child

These four achievements/trophies are tied into earning medals for reaching specific score milestones upon completing each of the Expedition levels in Score Attack mode. You’ll earn the achievements/trophies ‘Way to Go’ (Earn Bronze medals on every level), ‘Gilded’ (earn one gold medal) and ‘Well Begun is Half Done’ (earn 10 gold medals) on the way to the ‘Golden Child’ achievement trophy which requires you to earn a gold medal on every mission.

An easy way to earn 10 gold medals for the mid-way achievement is to complete the Challenge Tomb levels, ‘The Orrery’ and ‘The Prophet’s Tomb’ levels. All of these are fairly short and straight forward once you know what you need to do. Just keep your combos running and if you make good time whilst not dying and adding a few penalty cards to increase your final score multiplier, you’ll pretty much guarantee yourself a gold medal.

‘Quite the Collector’ and ‘These Belong in a Museum’

These pair of achievements/trophies can be earned by earning Expedition Cards. You can earn Expedition Cards by earning credits which can be earned either through the campaign or by setting Challenges and completing them in Expedition Mode levels. From the ‘Marketplace’ menu you can purchase packs of cards either earned in-game credits or using actual money (I don’t recommend the second option).

Fortunately, if you play through the campaign before trying out the Expedition Mode (you’ll need to do this anyway to unlock the various levels) you should have a relatively large sum of credits, plus a few gift packs awarded upon progression. Use your credits to purchase as many Bronze Packs of cards as possible. Once you have burned through your credits, play the expedition modes in an attempt to earn those gold medals which will earn you additional credits which can then be spent on additional packs. Again

You will need to earn a total of 150 Expedition Cards for the ‘Quite the Collector’ achievement/trophy and 300 for the ‘These Belong in a Museum’ .

Untouchable

Description: Replay 5 different levels without taking any damage.

In order to unlock this achievement/trophy, you’ll need to complete five different Expedition Mode levels without sustaining any damage. This sounds quite difficult and can be if you try to complete any of the levels involving combat or enemies. Fortunately, each of the game’s Challenge Tombs has its own Expedition Mode level and none of them have any enemies involved! Simply complete five of these levels without taking damage (which in most case would only be self-inflicted) to earn the achievement/trophy.

Iron Will

Description: Complete a level in Score Attack using 5 cards.

As mentioned earlier, upon starting a Expedition Mode level, you’ll have the opportunity to select up to five Expedition Cards in order to modify your experience. To earn this achievement/trophy you’ll simply need to select five Cards to play with (it doesn’t really matter which ones). Complete the selected mission and the achievement/trophy will be all yours!

My Own Worst Enemy

Description: Complete a level in Score Attack with a card bonus of 200% or more.

In order to complete this achievement/trophy, you’ll need to use cards to boost the resulting card bonus to >200%. The cards you’ll want to select are in the ‘Player Weakening’ and ‘Enemy Strengthening’ tabs of the Card selection area.

To make things super easy, select cards with high bonus effects such as ‘Deaths will end the Mission’, ‘Bonus enemy Armour’ or ‘Start with No Ammo’ and then play one of the non-combat missions such as the Challenge Tomb levels. You’ll easily be able to beat them in just a few minutes even with the new debuff cards active and get your achievement/trophy to boot!

That All You Got?

Description: Complete 3 Replay Challenges in one Score Attack level.

In order to complete this achievement/trophy, you’ll need to complete three of the five challenges selected whilst setting up the level. To make things easier, choose challenges that will be easy to achieve, such as the ’Deathless’, ‘Pickup Collector I/II/III’ and ‘Chain Reaction I/II/III’. Again, the Challenge Tombs are by far the easiest option as you won’t need to worry about enemies or damage breaking your combos (if you choose the ‘Chain Reaction’ challenges).

Once you are happy with your challenge selection, then it’s just a matter of playing through your level of choice completing the challenges as you go before you finish the level. Once you have successfully completed the mission, you’ll be awarded the achievement/trophy at the score screen.
