Gameplay

Difficulty Levels

Shadow of the Tomb Raider offers four modes of difficulty which are as follows:

Smart and Resourceful (Easy): This mode provides the simplest gameplay option for those who would rather enjoy the experience without too much hassle. It offers aim assist, a lot of helpful hints, and weaker enemies.

Rite of Passage (Normal): This mode is the default setting. It provides an easy experience but still with some challenging aspects. This mode offers fewer hints and stronger enemies, as well as unlit base camps and disabled aim assist.

One With the Jungle (Hard): A challenging mode that disables all hints for puzzles and traversal of the environment. Lara can be more easily located by enemies that are much tougher, and combat health regeneration is disabled. You’ll also have to go without Survival Instincts for this mode, so if it’s your first time playing, we don’t recommend it.

Deadly Obsession (Very Hard): If you want the ultimate test of your skills, this mode is for you! Enemies are stronger, have stronger weapons and armour, and have increased health and damage. And, in order to save the game, you have to return to a base camp - which also requires hardwood to activate them each time.

For three of these difficulty levels, the settings can be changed separately for Combat, Exploration, and Puzzle before you start a new game. You can also change them later in-game if you wish.

Unfortunately, Deadly Obsession can only be selected when beginning a new game, and it’s all-out warfare! You cannot mix this mode with any other difficulty settings, so choose wisely.
