The Bound Bowl Grand Prix

By
Jarrod Garripoli

You have removed all of the barriers cutting off the Shiverians to their racing circuit, which is now open for business. Drop down into the hole and you’ll slide down to some lobby. There’s nothing here, so drop down to the lower area and approaching some of the Shiverians tells you that one racer is missing, which means the race cannot start. It appears he is in the waiting room, so enter the doorway that you find to be brought to the waiting room. Jump up the pillars to find a lone Shiverian, but ignore him and head past that room.

There’s a large snow pile in the way, so either clear it or run right through it to find three purple coins on the other side (33) . Head into that room now and speak with the shivering Shiverian, who mentions not wanting to race because the others are too serious. He says that he’s not leaving the spot and if someone else wanted to take his place, they can. Dwell long enough and Cappy chimes in with helping the poor fellow win, so the obvious choice would be to toss your hat at the Shiverian to capture him.

The Shiverian’s only ability is to do something called bounding, which is basically bouncing by pressing the B button. There isn’t much use outside of the races you will be participating in, but it can be a bit useful to practice it a bit right now. Go up the hill to find four purple coins (37) , then roll down the next hill to get back to the lobby. Speak with the Shiverian Elder and say you’re ready to race. You will be able to practice before you dive into, on the actual course you will be using for the race itself.

(1 of 2) Hitting the corners on the way down will give some speed

Hitting the corners on the way down will give some speed (left), Avoid hitting the inside parts of the straightaway ramps since you will lose a lot of speed (right)

You can quit practice at any time by pressing the + button, but get a feel for the course and learn how to use the corners to gain some speed. Most important is that you don’t hit the snow that isn’t part of the track, as that will slow you down a lot. Another big slowdown is hitting the little bumps on the back portion, which will launch you into the air. Bounding/bouncing is good, but you don’t need to do it all the time, especially on the see-sawing walls. All you have to do for the race is finish in first place, which isn’t particularly difficult. Try to aim for a time of around one minute or lower, as this will help you in the long run, but it doesn’t matter as long as you win. Your reward for coming in first place will be Multi Moon (The Bound Bowl Grand Prix).
