Substories are the wackier stories in the Like A Dragon series, to offshoot the more serious tone of the main story. You will first unlock the ability to do Substories in Chapter 2, although they aren’t shown on your map, so you will need to fully explore each map to find them. This page will give a walkthrough of The Boy Who Cried Bear Substory, found in Mibu.
Where to Start The Boy Who Cried Bear in Like a Dragon: Ishin¶
Before you are able to do this, you will need to be in Chapter 5 and have done Substory 60 - It’s What’s on the Inside. Once you have done that, head on over to Mibu and go to the shrine, where you went to during the previously mentioned substory. You should see a boy and his father there, so approach them to start this Substory.
Troublesome Bear Boss Fight¶
Yes, you’re fighting a bear, and it is quite powerful, so you will need to be pretty careful not to get hit at all. Despite that, the bear’s attacks are fairly easy to avoid and it doesn’t really do much in the way of combos. Swordsman is great, because that style is perfect for one-on-one battles. Just make sure you hold R1/RB to take a stance, since that gives you the opportunity to always keep watch on the bear’s movements. Wild Dancer is also great, because of its movement and evasion, and Gunman can be useful for the long-distance attacks. If you want to feel the sensation of punching a bear, then you can use Brawler.
As previously mentioned, most of the bear’s attacks are fairly easy to dodge, as they are telegraphed ahead of time. You will want to be careful when you see it charging up, as it will dash across and if you touch the bear during this charge, you will take damage. Ideally, you don’t want to get greedy with your attacks and just hit it a few times, before backing off and waiting for your next opportunity. After defeating the bear, the Substory will be over.
