No Man's Sky

Structural Base Parts

By
Paul McNally

Building a base in No Man’s Sky needs everything you won’t put into it at first - planning, foresight, and vision. However, just like Minecraft, your initial hovel won’t be fit for purpose. Many of the parts you will want later on will simply not be available initially, meaning you will constantly be renovating your base and expanding it as you go along.

Build the Best Base in No Man’s Sky

As you unlock more parts they will appear within your build menu.

On the following pages, you will find all the parts you can unlock to build your base, both on land and in space and keep a handy tally of how much raw materials you are going to need, as well as start to get a picture of what you might want to put and where.

We have split them into resource types for ease as we figure you probably won’t want to be building bases made from trees and mixing them with futuristic alloy walls. Who knows though. You do you.

Timber Base Items

You are only going to need four raw materials to build every timber part in the game. No part will more than two of these at any one time, and the most exotic of which - glass, is the only one you will have to craft yourself as the other three are all readily available.

Timber parts are one of the first you have access to in No Man’s Sky.

Stone Base Items

Stone items are also easy to craft. Again, you can make everything with just four raw materials, but instead of glass here you can use Silicate Powder, which is basically the dirt you can dig up. Once again, you won’t need to use more than two resources to craft any one item here.

You will unlock more parts as you play and purchase blueprints.

Alloy Base Items

Creating Alloy base parts is pretty simple, in the main you just need Ferrite Dust and lots of ot. Some of the more exotic parts may need a sprinking of Pure Ferrite or even glass for the windows but other than that you can construct an alloy base quickly by shooting up all the rocks in the local vicintity, clearing space for your new home at the same.

For that sci-fi look you need to concentrate on space-age alloy parts for your base.

Concrete Base Items

Now as we know using concrete is bad for the planet, but, well, this isn’t our planet is it, so feel free to make ugly concrete monoliths until your heart is content. In the main you are just going to need a ton of Silicate Powder for most of these base parts and you can get that by basically digging the dirt.

Wooden Base Items

Similar to Timber parts but a little more on the rustic side, if you are building a cabin on the side of an alien lake you might go for a wooden finish instead.

Freighter Items

More of a specialized item that you won’t care about until you own your own freighter, these sections of base will let you build your ideal set-up on board your space tanker. There are not too many options and they are all crafted from just two resources - Tritium - mined from asteroids, as well as silver (in sometimes large quantities) that can also be found in asteroids belts, or in mineral deposits on planet’s surfaces.

When you own a freighter you can build a mini-base onboard your large ship.
