Upon defeating the Bosslug boss in Sea of Stars, you will finally be able to exit the Forbidden Cavern and be on your way to the next destination, where your goal is to meet with the Elder Mist. Of course, there is a little distraction along the way, so it’s a good idea to stop by that locale. This page will focus on the walkthrough for the Mountain Trail dungeon.
Sunglow Lake¶
Once you’re on the world map, the Mountain Trail dungeon is up and to the right. The location to the far right, the Solstice Shrine, is something you can’t do anything about right now, so ignore it. On the far left side, however, is Sunglow Lake, the first fishing spot you will encounter in the game. Head inside and off to the left is a merchant, who will be offering some weapon upgrades for your two characters. Both are more powerful than your starting weapons, so it’s a good idea to purchase them. Note that you should have looted a Shiny Pearl in the Forbidden Cavern, which you can sell for some extra gold.
You can jump in the water, if you want, which is a good idea, as there is a basket with 5x Dairy on the northern end. Once you’re done exploring this little hole in the wall, feel free to do some fishing. Just approach the end of the dock on the southern end and press the confirm button to start. For a more in-depth look on fishing, check out the How to Fish in Sea of Stars page. This spot only has two different fish to get, the Lunar Trout and the Man o’War. The latter is on the southern side of the lake, while the former is along the northern end. When you’re done, it’s time to finally go to the Mountain Trail.
Mountain Trail¶
When you first enter the place, some scenes will take place and Garl will join your party. His normal attack deals blunt damage (like Valere), and he has a better healing spell than Zale’s, although it costs more MP. You’ll also unlock the Cooking option at camp, which allows you to make meals that can be used as recovery items (in and outside of battles). For starters, head to the nearby bush to pick some Red Berries, then head to the campfire. Select the Cook option and make some Berry Jam. That’s all there is to cooking in Sea of Stars.

Speak to Garl after you’re done and time will past to the next morning, where you will finally be able to explore the dungeon. Note that there isn’t anything at all in the areas you’ve previously explored during the Prologue, so there’s no need to backtrack. That means as soon as you gain control, head north from the campfire to find a save point. To the left of that is a cave opening, so head inside to find some Luslugs. Defeat them, then climb the ledges here to the top to find a chest, which contains an Abacus.
After looting the chest, exit the cave and climb the wall next to the save point. There will be two ladders you can kick down on the right, as well as a spot where you can loot some Grains. You should always keep a lookout for these loot spots while exploring. They will replenish after some time has passed, allowing you to get more food items from them. Return up the ladder and instead of going north, look to the left to spot a path in between the trees. This leads to another chest, one which contains a Basic Armor. This is only equippable to Zale/Valere, so put it on one of them, then take their old armor and equip it to Garl.
As you approach the bridge, two Rochevre will attack you. These bull-like enemies will have Ram as their special attack, which can deal some good damage, so try to break the Locks. After taking them out, cross the bridge and descend the stairs, stopping halfway to drop off the right side and loot some food items (Tomato and Bell Pepper). Continue along the path, crossing some more bridges, and loot the Lettuce right before the gaps.
While hopping across, the ground will fall here, but there’s nothing to worry about, as you cannot drop down at all. You will eventually run into a new enemy along the way, the Wanderer. Their normal attack hits twice, and their special is called Thunder. This is a little tricky to time a block, as you need to wait until the third lightning bolt, since that’s the one that will hit you. When they are done, hop across the gap to the left and kick the ladder down to make a shortcut. Climb the wall,
keep moving and drop down to the east to loot some more Bell Peppers. Head back up and enter the cave beyond the bridge.
There will be a campfire in here, as well as a merchant, although other than some food/meals, he sells nothing new. Feel free to rest up, cook any meals, and save your game, before climbing the nearby wall and exiting the cave. There will be more enemies outside (two Luslugs and a Wanderer), so take care of them, then look along the southern ledge. You will be able to drop down here, allowing you to enter a cave. There will be some Luslugs inside, as well as a chest on the right side. You just need to climb some walls and walk along some ropes to reach it; open it for 2x Shiny Pearls.
Back outside, climb the hard-to-see ledge just to the left of the cave entrance to get back up, then drop down to the area with the mist. You can actually drop down into the mist, where you’ll actually find a chest on the left side (Recipe: Chaudree). Continue up, fighting the enemies along the way, and making sure to drop the ladder by the Rochevre/Wanderer battle. Get across the second misty area (there’s nothing hidden here), then climb the next wall, looting the Lettuce at the top. On the other side of the tightrope will be a Rochevre.
You will also see another cave entrance here, but there’s nothing to do inside right now, so ignore it. Climb up the rest of the way, and you will finally come face-to-face with the Elder Mist. In order to understand the Live Mana option, you will have one final test, the Elder Mist Trials.
