As you’re pummeling your enemies in Like A Dragon Gaiden, you may need that extra oomph to your attacks or even some protection against the enemy’s attacks. That’s where your Gear comes into play. You start the game with one Gear slot open and need to purchase the other three through your Upgrades menu. While you could probably get through a good portion of the game with whatever you find, you will need the best Gear for the later battles.
Gear will become very important as you get further into the game.
Eye of the Dragon¶
The Eye of the Dragon is a great piece of equipment, as it provides both an attack boost, as well as a defensive one. In addition to this, it’s great outside of battles, since it will increase the amount of Akame Points you get. That means that getting it early is the best option, since you will always want it equipped. To get this item, just head to Mizorogi’s Workshop and purchase it from him; it’ll set you back ¥1,138,00, so it’s a bit expensive at the start of the game.
Dragon God Amulet¶
One of the best pieces of equipment in the game is the Dragon God Amulet. You can purchase this from Akame’s Shop for a whopping 60,000 points, which is quite a lot. There is not too much that you would need to buy from her shop, although Akame Points can be slow coming if you don’t do all of the Requests. If you got the Eye of the Dragon above, though, that will give you extra points throughout the game. This item is nice, because it offers more Attack/Defense over the Eye of the Dragon. It will also make it so your Heat gauge gradually fills whenever you’re low on health.

Dragon’s Binding¶
Another fantastic piece of equipment, the Dragon’s Binding has a few spots where you can get it. Similar to the Dragon God Amulet, you can purchase it from Akame’s Shop for 16,000 points. However, it’s better to wait and save up those points for the other item mentioned above. Once you obtain Gold Rank for the Castle, you will be able to access the higher end shop in the Boutique, where you will find the Dragon’s Binding for sale, with it costing ¥1,984,000. This item is gotten purely for the stats, with it offering 240 Attack, 600 Defense, and resistance to Bleed.
Great Fortune Silver Undies¶
Another item that’s similar to the Eye of the Dragon, it offers a little more attack and defense over it. However, it doesn’t have any other special properties, so you’re likely better off just using the first item. This is available to buy from the Gold Rank shop in the Boutique, with it costing ¥200,000.

Great Fortune Gold Undies¶
This is one of the best items in the game, as it offers a ton of stats, as well as resistance to all four of the main bad status effects. With a whopping 950 increase to attack, you will definitely be looking to grab this as soon as possible. However, that kind of power doesn’t come without a price, as the Gold Undies cost ¥50,000,000. It’s available from the higher end shop in the Boutique, which requires achieving Gold Rank.
Sengoku Armor¶
This could be a great placeholder piece of equipment for a good while, until you get enough money for the better option. It has decent attack/defense, but it also has Blade Defense on it and makes you resistant to Bleed. While you have this armor equipped, you will also be able to guard against edged weapons. You can purchase this from the Boutique (the normal merchant there), but you can also get one for free by finding Locker Key C5.
Chainmail¶
The Chainmail is basically an upgraded Sengoku Armor, as it has much better base stats and basically the same functions. You will be able to purchase this from the vendor at the Boutique, the one behind the Gold Rank door. It will set you back ¥8,922,000.
You can get some free pieces of equipment from the Coin Lockers.
Payback Ring¶
The Payback Ring can be a double-edged blade for a piece of equipment. It basically makes it so the lower your health is, the greater your attack will be boosted. So, if you leave yourself at critical health, then you will have bigger attack boost, but there is a higher chance you might get knocked out. You can purchase one from the Ebisu Pawn Shop for ¥22,000, but you can also get one for free by finding Locker Key C4.
