Man in a Suit Boss Guide - Like A Dragon Gaiden

By
Jarrod Garripoli

You will face many bosses in Like A Dragon Gaiden, who are definitely not pushovers at all. The Man in a Suit is the first boss in the game, with you facing off against him inside a parking garage, right after fighting some thugs. You can almost treat the Man in a Suit boss as a tutorial, since he’s not particularly too challenging and you will learn about Ultimate Attacks/Counters here.

The Man in a Suit will be your first introduction to a boss in Like A Dragon Gaiden.

How to Beat the Man in a Suit

As mentioned above, the Man in a Suit could be considered a tutorial boss, but you can still easily get a game over if you’re not careful. One of the first things you should note about bosses is that you can’t just continually attack them, like you can with normal enemies. Bosses, or any enemy that typically gets a health bar on the bottom of the screen, have super armor in the game. Basically, they will eventually stop getting flinched by your attacks and power through them, with them attacking back.

The Man in the Suit has some annoying kicks for sure, mostly the hook kick. He will kick in front of him, then quickly hook his leg back a little bit, making it quite troublesome to fully dodge. Of course, the quickstep maneuver is the best way to go about things with bosses, too. To do this, hold down R1/RB, then press X/A and any direction to perform the quickstep dodge. If you’re not holding a direction, Kiryu will move backwards.

Other than the hook kick, there’s also a two-kick combo, as well as a one-two quick punch combo. Since you are restricted to the Agent Style, you likely only want to do two button presses for attacks, then back off and bait out another move from him. At around 50% health remaining, the Man will gain an aura (this should be familiar to any fan of the series), and you’ll receive a tutorial for Ultimate Counters. The enemy’s ultimate attack will usually deal a lot of damage, so you want to make sure you either avoid it completely or use the Ultimate Counter.

(1 of 4) Quickstep is one of the best defensive measures against bosses.

How to Perform the Ultimate Counter

To perform the Ultimate Counter, you will basically be doing a quickstep maneuver (outlined above). While the tutorial mentions timing it right before the attack hits, you can simply spam the quickstep move to get the Ultimate Counter much more easily. When you’ve performed the counter, you will see a button prompt appear (Circle/B), so hit it quickly to deal damage to the boss. The Ultimate Counter does a fair bit of damage, so you should always be using it.

Keep up the fight after that tutorial bit, keeping an eye out for more opportunities for Ultimate Counters. The Man doesn’t really do anything different with his aura, so you will eventually take him down before long. Just make sure you keep high health in case his ultimate attack does actually hit. Once you’ve defeated the Man in a Suit, there will be a few scenes, then you’re thrown right into the next boss fight, against the Man in a Hannya Mask.
