Enemy Threat Ranks - Minoris Majoris Extremis Terminus

Not all threats are created equal - nobody would mistake the danger posed by a Termagaunt as in any serious way comparable to that of a Carnifex, for example, and having a rough system by which you can categories that peril your foe poses can help prioritize targets and assess risks. Even more important, categorizing enemies into various threat ranks are used by various weapon and class perks to determine how certain weapons and abilities affect different enemies - if you don’t know the difference between a majoris enemy and an extermis enemy, you’re going to have some trouble picking the best perks for your playstyle. This page will help cut through the vague in-game terminology and define what counts as a minoris, majoris, extremis and terminus enemy in Space Marine 2, and why these designations matter.

Enemy Threat Ranks

At the top of the screen you will often see the word “Targets” followed by the highest threat level of all enemies nearby. These are, in order of weakest to strongest: minoris, majoris, extremis and terminus, although it should be noted that you will likely not see the designation “terminus” in-game, as it’ll be obscured by the target’s health bar. If you know what enemies fit into which category, you’ll have a good general idea of what’s in the area, even if you can’t see it - if you’re on a mission where you encounter Tyranids, a majoris threat almost invariably means Tyranid Warriors, while extremis indicates either a Ravener or Zoanthropes.

It’s useful enough to find out what xeno or heretic threat is skulking in the shadows nearby, but its major purpose is to categorize enemies for the purposes of the game’s RPG elements in Operations mode. For example, the Chainsword perk “Minoris Slayer” boosts damage against minoris-tier enemies, and “Majoris Slayer” and “Extremis Slayer” does the same for - you guessed it - majoris and extremis enemies, respectively. The Tactical class perk “Priority Targeting” boosts the class’s Auspex Scan ability albeit at the expense of no longer affecting minoris-tier enemies, while “Marked for Death” causes headshots to instantly kill majoris and extremis enemies. Knowing what counts as what can be rather important.

Minoris Enemies

The weakest of the weak, minoris enemies are any foe that will be instantly killed if you parry their attacks… excluding Cultists, who generally know better than to attempt to melee you. Culists, Hormagaunts, Termagants and Tzangors all count as minoris enemies.

Majoris Enemies

A large step up from minoris enemies, majoris enemies are appreciably more durable and dangerous. They won’t die when their attacks are parried, and they can soak up a good amount of damage before becoming wounded enough to trigger an execution prompt. Only Tyranid Warriors and Rubric Marines fall into the category of majoris enemies, but there are plenty of variants of each, making this by far the most common large enemy you’ll encounter.

Majoris enemies largely include Tyranid Warriors and Rubric Marines.

Extremis Enemies

The elites of each faction, extremis enemies are not quite bosses, although some may end up cast as minibosses, and often serve as the key threat in larger combat scenarios, and are dangerous enough that they rarely appear in groups… the exceptions being Zoanthropes (who often appear in pairs) and Scarab Occult Terminators, which are functionally just Rubric Marines in heavier armour. Extermis enemies include Lictors, Raveners, Scarab Occult Terminators and Zoanthropes.

Extremis enemies are the elites - Lictors, Raveners, Scarab Occult Terminators and Zoanthropes all fit into this category.

Terminus Enemies

The strongest enemies in the game, there’s no questioning what counts - if it has a big life bar atop the screen, it’s a Terminus enemy, a category basically synonymous with bosses. The only exception is the Lictor, which is a proper boss in the Campaign but an extremis enemy in Operations mode (not to mention that lesser extremis variants of the Lictor appear during Campaign mode). The Carnifex, Helbrute, Heldrake, Hive Tyrant, Imurah and Neurothrope all count as terminus enemies.
