How to Fix the World Not Saving Bug - Palworld

By
Jessica Dillon

Palworld is an expansive game so it’s not a surprise that bugs pop up, especially when it comes to saving your game. If you are playing Palworld for an extended amount of time, there’s a chance that you might start getting a pop-up informing you that your game can’t be saved. This can cause you to lose hours of your progress, and for the most part, simple fixes won’t work. The guide below goes over what causes the Palworld saving glitch and how to fix it.

Palworld seems to start crashing when you acquire too many Pals.

What Causes Saving Errors in Palworld?

This glitch happens when a blue box starts popping up informing you that the game “Cannot Start World Save Data.” It can happen both in single or multiplayer games. After this, there’s a high chance that your progress is no longer being recorded. As for what triggers this bug, there seem to be two likely causes. The first was capturing over 70 Pals in the game, and the second was a high load. No matter which scenario actually causes this bug, it’s clear that it happens when there’s too much going on in the game. With each Pal you catch and each bonfire you build, there’s more data that the game has to keep up with, and at some point, this glitch occurs due to the data not properly being stored.

How to Fix Palworld Not Saving on Xbox

To fix this issue on Xbox, you may need to wipe out the reserved space for your Palworld Data. Be sure to follow the steps below, as you can wipe your entire save if you don’t know exactly what you are doing. Be warned that the game does have a chance of not wanting to load after using this.

  • From your console home, go into Games & Apps.
  • Select Palworld and press Xbox-ButtonMenu to bring up the menu.
  • Select saved data and click on reserved space.
  • Delete the reserved space.

If your game black screens after this, open Palworld and then start a recording. This will prompt the system to ask you what storage you would like to use. Verify that you want to use console storage, and this should start the game.

How to Fix Palworld Not Saving on Steam

PC is a bit more complex as there can be more at play here other than a small data issue. If your game isn’t saving and you’re getting the area pop-up in the game, then you can try to re-verify your game. Here’s how to do this if you are currently playing on Steam.

  • Open Steam and go to your library.
  • Select Palworld, click the gear icon, and choose the properties option.
  • Go to Installed Files and choose the “Verify Integrity of Game Files” option.

Steam will now process and repair any broken files, hopefully fixing the issues. Be sure to reload Steam once this fix is complete.

How to Fix Palworld Not Saving on Xbox For PC

This is a similar process to fixing the game on Steam, the steps are listed below.

  • From Xbox Home, click on the game.
  • Click on the three dots beside play and choose the manage option.
  • Go to files. At the bottom of the page, click “verify and repair.”
  • Once you are sure your save is backed up, select “Yes” to start the repair.

You may need to reset the Xbox app once this is done.
