Frostpunk 2

A Mysterious Symbol Choice

By
Matt Chard

During the Prologue of Frostpunk 2 you’ll get a few important decisions to make. One of these is the “A Mysterious Symbol” event that appears around halfway through the Chapter. This is an important choice that can change which community you start with for Chapter 1. Read on to find out what each choice offers you, and how it will effect your game.

The “A Mysterious Symbol” event can have a profound impact on your game.

Events

Throughout the game, you’ll get to make important choices that can have a large impact in the game. Events are indicated by a circular icon with a shape in the middle of it. These circles begin to fill up (gold outline around the circle) that indicates how much time you have to select it. Events with the square shape are important choices while events with the triangle shape are less important. A Mysterious Symbol is a square-shaped event, and your choice will determine what additional community you start with in Chapter 1.

From time to time, events will appear on the map. The ones with the square shape are important, so make sure you don’t miss them.

It Symbolizes Order

Selecting this means that New London is a city of discipline that follows strong leadership. This unlocks the Stalwart Faction in Chapter 1. The Stalwarts are a core faction of the New Londoners who are devoted to following the late Captains memory. They are a strict and controlling faction who believe in progress regardless of the outcomes.

  • Progress: That technology including the generator allowed them power and allows them to thrive.
  • Merit: They believe that accomplishment should be rewarded because coddling just breeds weakness.
  • Reason: They want to reorder the facets of life with clear minds and cold hearts.

Finally, each Faction or Community can get abilities depending on your relations with them. The first ability is available after you unlock them while the second ability is when you’ve reached “Good” relations with them. The first ability is “Mobilize Automaton Enforcers” which allows you to field squads of automatons to fight crimes and stop disruptions. The second ability is !Extra Prefabs Assembly! which increases your Prefabs income.

You’ll obtain the Stalwarts Faction if you select the Order choice.

It Symbolizes Faith

Selecting this means that New London is a city of devotion and follows a zealous clergy. This unlocks the Faithkeepers Faction in Chapter 1. The Faithkeepers are followers of a religious movement established by the the captain. They seek ascension through technology, although they still have traditional values. Their beliefs are:

  • Progress: That they can conquer the frost through machines and automation and that humankind has dominion over nature.
  • Equality: That everyone stands equal before the Divine.
  • Tradition: That society should stay the same way it was before the frost.

Finally, each Faction or Community can get abilities depending on your relations with them. The first ability is available after you unlock them while the second ability is when you’ve reached “Good” relations with them. The former allows you to Hold Evening Prayers, which improves your Trust meter, while the latter allows you to use the Serenity Sermons ability, which decreases Tension (important).

You’ll obtain the Faithkeepers Faction if you select the Faith choice.

I Don’t Recognize This Symbol

Selecting this means that New London is more from ideas and is essentially giving you a blank slate at the start of Chapter 1. However, this will still unlock the Faithkeeper Faction. That’s it for the “A Mysterious Symbol” event. You won’t see the outcome of the even until later on in the chapter, so don’t worry if you haven’t unlocked anything straight away.
