Starting The Collector Task

You won’t gain access to the "Kuttenberg" iconKuttenberg region until you’ve progressed the main story a fair amount, it’s not until you complete the Storm quest that you’ll reach Kuttenberg for the first time, and then you’ll be locked into the introductory main quests of this region before you can jump on your horse and explore this massive region.

Once you begin the Devil’s Pack main quest, you’ll need to travel around the region finding old members of Dry Devil’s gang. The person you’re looking for specifically is Matthew, who you can learn about down in Miskowitz, a village located in the center of the region, between both "Suchdol" iconSuchdol and Kuttenberg.

Start the quest by speaking to the Bailiff in Miskowitz.

Matthew patrols the roads between Wysoka and Opatowitz.

Once you enter the village, head to the "Blacksmith" iconBlacksmith’s house located on the east side of town and go through the door on your left to find Bailiff Crux. Ask him about Matthew, and then press him on why he’s a Collector to learn about what he’s been getting up to. Ask him where he prowls and you’ll learn that there is a bounty out on Matthew, agree to help to begin the Collector Task.

Catch the Bandit Known as Matthew the Collector

If you’ve exhausted everything Bailiff Crux has to say, you’ll learn that Matthew is in possession of a rare book, and you’ll need to bring it back as proof of your claiming the bounty on Matthew. As he says, you’ll find Matthew patrolling the road between Suchdol and your current location during the day, or in a bandit’s camp located in the forest to the east at night.

The easiest way to encounter him is to Fast Travel between "Wysoka" iconWysoka and "Opatowitz" iconOpatowitz until you’re stopped by his gang along the way (or simply ride yourself, as this main road runs through the area he roams). If you’re riding and go too fast, you’ll lose the opportunity to talk to Matthew and start a battle right away, while if you’re stopped via Fast Travel, you’ll get a chance to talk it out.

(1 of 3) Try to not let yourself get surrounded.

If you’re working on "The Devil's Pack" iconThe Devil’s Pack, know that there’s no way to convince him to return to the Dry Devil’s service, so you’re free to take him out. His gang aren’t anything to write home about, especially if you’ve taken the time to have some good armor on you and weapons, just remember to make use of Mutt and try to not let yourself get surrounded. Matthew, on the other hand, has decent equipment, so try to leave him for last so you don’t get hit by his friends while you focus on him.

Regardless of how you handle it, loot Matthew’s body upon his death and you’ll find the "Rare book from Sedletz" iconRare book from Sedletz, the item you’ve been searching for. Be sure to study the book yourself before you hand it over for some Scholarship XP, then hand it over to Bailiff Crux to complete the Task and obtain 285 "Groschen" iconGroschens.
