Warding Off Evil is a task that can be found within the Kuttenberg Region, and can be accessed once you’ve completed The Sword and the Quill Main Quest.

Johann Parler needs you to create a Protective Axe.

Starting Warding Off Evil Task¶

Head to The Emperor Charles Tavern which is located in the northwest of Kuttenbergand speak with Johann Parlar to learn that he is worried about something happening to the Church of Saint Barbara and has a job for you. He would like you to craft a Protective Axe which is forged out of talismans that are scattered around Kuttenberg.

Forge a Protective Axe¶

The Protective Axe will require a Holy Nail, Coin and a Horseshoe before you can make it and they can be the locations found below

Steal the Holy Nail from the Rafter¶

Head to the fifth house along from the city’s northernmost entrance

to find the Holy Ladder upstairs.

The Holy Nail can be found by heading to the city’s northernmost entrance to find a row of houses and you’ll want to enter the fifth one along. It may have some people nearby so we recommend passing time until nightfall before sneaking upstairs, then you’ll need to lockpick the door (easy difficulty) and climb up the ladder to find the nail on the nearby table.

Steal the Horseshoe Hanging Above the Door¶

Head southeast of the Vintner’s Street Fountain

to find the Horseshoe above the doorway near the entrance.

The Horseshoe can be found by heading to Vintner’s Street and making your way towards the tavern to the southeast of the fountain and proceed into the alleyway. From here, enter the first door on the left and then take another left to find it above the door.

Steal the Commemorative Coin from the Building’s Foundations¶

Head into the Hangman’s Halter !Tavern Basement

and interact with the wall to find the Commemorative Coin

It’s now time to collect the Commemorative Coin so head into Hangman’s Halter Tavern which is located to the South of Grain Market and make your way down into the basement via the first door on the right (after the stairs). Approach the far back wall to find some exposed bricks you can interact with to find the item!

Warding Off Evil Task Rewards¶

Head to the Smithy that’s located on Merchants Street and build the Protective Axe and then bring it to Johann and the quest will come to a close and you’ll be rewarded with 150 Groschen.
