There are many different types of weapons that are at your disposal in Helldivers 2 (29 to be exact at launch), but the game doesn’t do a great job of telling you how to unlock them. On this page, we’ll guide you through the necessary steps to building out your arsenal and unlocking weapons in Helldivers 2.

The starting handgun and assault rifle will not hold up for long once you begin tackling the harder difficulties, but you won’t be able to acquire any new weapons by extracting them from missions or skill points.

Helldivers 2 How to Get New Guns

Instead, to unlock weapons in Helldivers 2 you’ll need to purchase them with Medals earned by completing missions and additional objectives within missions. This can be done from the Acquisitions menu in-game. Both the free ‘Helldivers Mobilise!’ and premium ‘Steeled Veterans’ Warbonds have a selection of weapons that can be unlocked.

By pressing DualSense-ButtonSquare on PlayStation or R on PC you can access the menu.

In total there are 13 pages of rewards with more than a dozen guns to unlock and add to your arsenal.

Once you’ve acquired a new weapon, you can equip it by visiting the armory on your ship and then selecting the category you wish to change: Primary, Secondary or Grenades. You can only carry one of each, but you can obtain additional weapons out in the world by finding them or calling in Stratagems

The armory can always be found on your ship after returning from a mission.
