What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device by a website. We and our partners also use similar technologies, such as web storage, tags and pixels, which work in comparable ways. Together they let the Site remember your session, remember your preferences, understand how the Site is used, and support advertising.
Cookies set by Gamer Guides are “first-party”. Cookies set by another company (for example an analytics or advertising provider) are “third-party”.
The cookies and technologies we use
We group them by what they are for. The strictly necessary group cannot be switched off; the others are used in line with your choices where the law requires consent.
| Category | Set by | What it does | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Gamer Guides (prs_session) |
Keeps you signed in and the Site working | First-party |
| Strictly necessary | Cloudflare Turnstile | Tells humans from bots on forms (security) | Third-party |
| Preferences | Gamer Guides | Remembers choices such as dark or light theme | First-party |
| Analytics | Google Analytics 4 | Aggregate usage statistics to help us improve the Site | Third-party |
| Analytics | GoSquared (IP anonymised) | Aggregate traffic statistics | Third-party |
| Advertising | Mediavine and its partners | Select, deliver and measure advertising | Third-party |
| Advertising | Quantcast | Audience measurement for advertising | Third-party |
Third-party providers set and manage their own cookies under their own policies. The advertising and analytics providers above maintain their own up-to-date cookie lists, which can change over time.
Managing your choices
- On the Site: use the Manage cookie preferences control at the top of this page at any time to review or change your consent for non-essential cookies. You do not need to clear your browser or wait for the banner to reappear.
- In your browser: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the Site works.
- Advertising opt-outs: you can opt out of interest-based advertising through the Network Advertising Initiative, the Digital Advertising Alliance, and the AppChoices app for mobile.
- Global Privacy Control: you can enable the GPC signal in your browser, which we honour where required.
Opting out of advertising cookies does not remove ads. You will still see non-personalised advertisements.
