Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is an expansion to the original game, offering a spy-thriller storyline set in a new Night City district. Assume the role of V as you embark on an intricate espionage mission, armed with fresh skills, advanced weaponry, and cutting-edge tech. In the plot, V becomes entangled in Dogtown’s conflicts, ultimately aligning with the New United States of America while partnering with FIA agent Solomon Reed to complete their mission.
The expansion was confirmed by CD Projekt Red on September 6, 2022. Set to release on September 26, 2023, it will be available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. Keanu Reeves reprises his role as Johnny Silverhand. This paid expansion is likened to Witcher 3 expansions Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone. A trailer at The Game Awards 2022 revealed Idris Elba’s involvement.
Pre-orders include a bonus in-game vehicle. Additionally, a major title update titled Update 2.0 is set to release on September 21, 2023, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, introducing features aligned with Phantom Liberty. CD Projekt Red also confirmed a “Game of the Year” edition of Cyberpunk 2077, slated for release in 2023 after Phantom Liberty, following a similar pattern as The Witcher 3’s expansions and combined DLC release.
A great follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077 with a stellar cast that brings a thrilling story to the streets of Dogtown. The gameplay changes bring it up to a better standard, but if you are not a fan of the original, don’t expect Phantom Liberty to change your mind.
