Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Unwelcome Guests

By
Nathan Garvin

The Necropolis, final resting place for untold thousands and consequently a beacon for spirits, is no stranger to unusual, evil hostile intruders. While the Mourn Watch are typically capable of dealing with spirits slipping through the veil, more corporeal intruders seem to be causing them a bit of trouble as of late. This page will provide a walkthrough for the side quest "Unwelcome Guests" iconUnwelcome Guests in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Page Breakdown

Starting Unwelcome Quests

To start this quest you’ll need to recruit Emmrich by complete the main quest Where the Dead Must Go, then return to the Necropolis and talk to Myrna and Vorgoth, who will give you the quests "Hauntings: Deathly Curiosity" iconHauntings: Deathly Curiosity and Unwelcome Guests. There are still Venatori lingering about, and the Mourn Watch could use your help clearing them out.

Recruit Emmrich, then return to the Necropolis and talk to Myrna and Vorgoth to start this quest.

Path of Sighs Venatori

From the Hollow Belfry, Lower (the central hub area where Myrna and Vorgoth are standing), exit through a doorway to the northeast, then turn southeast and note your path is blocked by a barrier. Destroy the barrier crystal to open the way forward, then press on until you find several Ventatori - mostly your standard cultists, but also the odd Executioner. Put them down and ignore the crystals - they don’t actually empower the Venatori during the fight. Once done, head downstairs to the southeast and turn south to spot some barrels under a covering - destroy them and the crystal hiding behind the barrels, then turn northwest to find another crystal in the air behind a pillar.

Once those two crystals are destroyed you can turn southeast to find the barrier crystals are all unshielded. Destroy them and grab the Dense Tome (+50 Caretaker Power) and the Templars in Nevarra codex entry. Head back upstairs to the northwest and destroy two more crystals, one to the northwest and another to the southwest to open up the Necropolis a bit more. With that out of the way, it’s time to seek out the second group of Ventatori.

(1 of 3) Defeat the first group of Venatori in the Path of Sighs,

Cascades Venatori

The second group of Venatori can be found deeper in the Necropolis. Backtrack to the room northeast of the Hollow Belfry, Lower, and from there continue northeast to reach a large, multistory room where you’ll likely have to fend off some undead. Do so, head downstairs, and exit to the southeast, then follow the linear path ahead downstairs to the southwest and southeast to Vault of the Beloved. This place is also crawling with undead, so fight through them and exit through a doorway to the northwest, head downstairs and exit into the southwest to reach the Cascades.

More Venatori dwell here, and they’re more diverse than the last group, busily working to summon demons, as Venatori are wont to do. This has so far only manifested as some Shades, who join the standard mix of Venatori Soldiers and Venatori Mages. Head to the southern edge of the chamber and destroy a crystal, then pick off the enemies in whichever order you prefer to rid the Necropolis of its Venatori infestation.

(1 of 2) Get to the southern end of the Cascades chamber and destroy a crystal,

Get to the southern end of the Cascades chamber and destroy a crystal, (left), then defeat the Venatori and their summoned Shades. (right)

For evicting the Venatori you’ll gain 500 EXP, 200 Gold, 5x Fade-Touch Ore, +50 Mourn Watch Strength, +50 Shadow Dragons Strength and a piece of gear (as a mage we got a "Shockbranch" iconShockbranch - your mileage may vary).
