Regrets of the Dread Wolf Quest Location

Unlike many of the other side quests that you’ll stumble upon while exploring Thedas, you won’t see a yellow ! indicating that it’s available, instead you must find the starting location yourself, which is actually achieved by completing another quest. As you explore The Crossroads for the first time, you’ll eventually reach the Converged City area. If you head off to the side of the path here, you’ll find that you can start going lower and enter what seems to be a memory of Solas, the Dread Wolf.

This begins the Labs Below main quest, which tasks you with exploring the depths of Solas’s past through a memory. It’s a rather linear quest with a few simple battles, but at the end of it, you’ll find not only a Gear Chest with some loot, but also a Wolf Statuette. Pocketing this will start the Regrets of the Dread Wolf side quest.

You can start Regrets of the Dread Wolf by completing the Labs Below main quest, pocketing the statuette at the end will begin this quest.

Look for more Wolf Statuettes

The first task, after securing the first Wolf Statuette, is to find five more of them scattered throughout the Crossroads. This is not as easy at it might seem, as you’ll be gated by the story at times on where you can explore in the area. As you might expect, some come from more Solas memory quests, while two are found in the Crossroads themselves outside of quests. The list below will tell you where you can find every Wolf Statuette:

  • Complete the Labs Below quest
  • Complete the Wolf’s Call quest (in the Eluvian Forest part of The Crossroads)
  • Complete the Disrupt and Conquer quest (in the Heights of Athim part of The Crossroads)
  • In the Crossroads: Converged City - Go through the Gate of Lost Ages door and complete the puzzle beyond it
  • In the Crossroads: Elvhenan’s Haven - Accessed by going through the Gate of -Faded Glories, solve the puzzle in the area beyond

Labs Below, Wolf’s Call, and Disrupt and Conquer Quests

All three of these are quests you can complete in The Crossroads and focus on a part of Solas’s memories. You will have already finished Labs Below if you have accepted this quest, The Wolf’s Call quest can be started by heading to the Elvhenan’s Haven part of The Crossroads, first accessed during Harding’s An Unfamiliar Sense Companion Quest. Instead of going through the Eluvian, take the side path to the west instead.

The final Solas memory quest, Disrupt and Conquer, can be found in the Heights of Athim section of The Crossroads, you’ll come here during the A Warden’s Best Friend main quest. Once you reach the area, you’ll need to go through the Blight Boil to your left, but if you ignore it and head to the north, you’ll be able to begin that quest.

(1 of 2) You’ll find the Wolf’s Call quest here in Elvhenan’s Haven.

You’ll find the Wolf’s Call quest here in Elvhenan’s Haven. (left), While you’ll need to come here in the Heights of Athim to begin Disrupt and Conquer. (right)

Converged City Statuette

You’ll have to do a bit more work for the final two Statuettes and, starting with the Converged City one, you’ll need to complete the Gate of Lost Ages side quest in Dock Town. Once you can fully explore Dock Town, head to Andraste’s Watch and work your way down to the bottom by activating the nearby Fen’harel Altar to create a path down. Here, you’ll find a Level 25 Champion, defeat him, claim his Essence, and then use it on the gate back in the Converged City.

Beyond here, you’ll find plenty of Venatori and blood crystals scattered around the area. Your goal is to destroy all of them to be able to loot all of the treasure here (and a Wolf Statuette). While Blood Crystals are simple enough to deal with by tracing the trail back to the source, you’ll need to go south first to find the first crystal (by breaking the lock on the ladder). Once you clear this area of the Venatori threat, you can then smash the first Crystal and trace them back.

(1 of 5) Defeat the Champion in Dock Town to get its Essence.

Once the final crystals fall, you’ll need to take out a Smoldering Blood Forge Golem and then, to find the Statuette, climb the ladder near the one you knocked down at the start (to the right of it when facing it). This will lead to a battle against two Venatori mages, one Fire resistant, the other Cold resistant. When they fall, you’ll finally be able to claim the Statuette that was behind the locked gate.

Elvhenan’s Haven Statuette

The final Statuette can be found in the Elvhenan’s Haven section of The Crossroads and you’ll need to complete the Gate of Faded Glories side quest which involves defeating a Level 25 Champion in Arlathan Forest, in the Tainted Woods section (in the northeast) that becomes available after completing Davrin’s How to Train a Griffon Companion quest. Once you reach the Beacon of this area, you can see the ruins directly ahead of you, but beware, you’ll only have a small arena to fight it in.

Once you have the Essence, return to Elvhenan’s Haven in the Crossroads and place the Essence in the gate to reach a new area. You’ll have two paths you can take, but you can only really explore the path to the left first so go there and take care of the enemies once you attempt to take the fake Wolf Statuette. Go forward to the broken bridge and you’ll find a statue you can rotate, along with two others in this area (one on the path down and one in the area where you fought the Antaam). You must rotate these in the following positions:

  • Statue near the bridge: East
  • Statue near the fake Statuette: East
  • Statue on the path: West

(1 of 5) Defeat the Champion in Arlathan Forest’s Tainted Woods and use its Essence to open the Gate of something in The Crossroads.

Once they’re in the correct positions, you will now be able to make your way over to the right side of this area. Deal with the Antaam that attack here and then look to a fourth statue, rotate this to the west so that it’s facing the statue near the broken bridge and you’ll create another path to reach the northern island. At the top of this island you’ll face a final group of Antaam and, once they’re defeated, will be able to pocket the fifth and final Wolf Statuette.

Reveal Solas’s Memories

You’ll need to wait a while for the story to progress before you can proceed with the next step of this quest. Once you complete the Something Wrong main quest, you’ll finally meet with the Inquisitor, who hands over another Wolf Statuette and gives you a clue on what to do with them.

Return to The Lighthouse and you’ll find a pedestal for the Wolf Statuette that you received in the central area (where Rook’s room is). You’ll be treated to a rather important memory of Solas, and obtain an Achievement/Trophy for doing so. You’ll now need to place them one by one around the room, each one revealing lore that is critical to the entire Dragon Age series, we won’t spoil that here, but you’re in for a treat.

Once you’re finished having your mind blown, you’ll get a request to meet someone in The Crossroads. Fast Travel over and on Beacon Island, the first area you appear in, you’ll find Morrigan near the campfire, who will deliver yet even more revelations. Mythal’s spirit is just beyond the gate that Morrigan has opened, however, make a hard save here, as you’re about to get a major choice.

(1 of 2) Place the statuettes in The Lighthouse to reveal important memories from Solas.

Mythal Choice

Your goal is to get the assistance of Mythal through her spirit, and there are two ways to reach this outcome. The first is to convince her through specific choices, succeed and she’ll give you her spirit, offer aid in a difficult battle in The Crossroads, and a unique weapon, Mythal’s Light.

If, however, you decide you just want to battle her or get one of the choices wrong, you’ll be forced to defeat her. Mythal is a Level 45 High Dragon battle and, despite looking intimidating, is not as tough as she may seem if you’re at least adept at dodging as you have a massive arena of which to fight her. For reference, we were able to defeat her as a Level 31 Warrior on the Underdog difficulty. Your rewards, however, are not as great, just some Faction reputation for Lords of Fortune and the XP so we encourage you to convince her first.

If you wish to know all of the correct answers in order to convince Mythal, check out our Mythal Choice guide here.

Don’t forget to loot the unique chest after your encounter with Mythal.

And with that, the lengthy Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest will come to an end, don’t forget to open the Unique Chest in this area before leaving, the Amulet is a powerful one that you’ll almost certainly want to equip.
