Dying Light: The Beast is an upcoming survival horror game from Techland, the creators of the Dying Light series. Originally planned as an expansion for Dying Light 2: Stay Human, it has grown into its own standalone release. The game launches on September 18, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One arriving later that year.
The story brings back Kyle Crane, the original series protagonist, who has been absent since the first game. After 13 years of captivity and cruel experiments at the hands of a villain known as the Baron, Crane escapes and sets out on a relentless path of revenge. This return marks a darker, more personal chapter for the character, who is now older, hardened, and driven by vengeance.
Gameplay blends open-world exploration with fast-paced, first-person action. Players will navigate Castor Woods—a rural tourist spot turned into a zombie-infested nightmare—using Crane’s trademark parkour abilities and off-road driving in a rugged 4x4. Combat mixes melee weapons, firearms, and Crane’s enhanced superhuman powers. A new “Beast Mode” allows players to unleash devastating attacks, from hurling objects to overpowering enemies with brute strength. The day-night cycle returns too, with zombies becoming far more dangerous after dark.
Unlike Dying Light 2, this entry takes a more focused and linear approach to storytelling, with Techland aiming to capture the tense survival atmosphere of the original game. Weapons and vehicles degrade over time, pushing players to adapt and scavenge to survive. The world itself emphasizes rural wilderness over sprawling cities, creating a different kind of challenge that relies on agility, resourcefulness, and strategy. And, as with previous games, up to four players can tackle the experience together in cooperative play.
Dying Light: The Beast seems to bring the best parts from both of its predecessors. With a new Beast mechanic, beating on Infected has never felt this good!
