We’re looking for a gaming enthusiast with creative and technical skills to produce assets for our interactive map projects, and support the back-end of our mapping pipeline.
You’ll work closely with the Lead Maps & Database Editor, turning what you see in-game into clear, accurate map images, icons, and other visual assets to support each project.
Alongside this, you’ll help set up marker categories, help decide what content should be tracked, ensuring things like randomized elements are handled properly.
You’ll also work with the content team to populate maps with markers using Gamer Guides’ custom CMS.
Responsibilities:
- Create high-resolution images of video game maps using in-game captures, existing assets, and original designs.
- Use a range of tools, capture techniques, and other methods to source and/or reproduce in-game assets.
- Build and organize marker category structures in the CMS (e.g. Points of Interest, Items, Equipment, etc.)
- Create icon images for map markers to represent in-game assets.
- Create promotional media for map projects for use on social media.
- Populate maps with clear, accurate markers and information.
How you’ll do it:
- Work with the Lead Maps & Database Editor to decide the best approach for each project.
- Capture in-game assets using the most effective tools and methods available.
- Use Photoshop (or other imaging editing software) to enhance and optimize assets for map use.
- Create clear and accurate high-res representations of in-game maps and environments, and import them into the CMS.
- With support form the content team, create categories of markers to house in-game findings.
- Help figure out in-game systems and mechanics (e.g randomized loot).
- If required, play ahead to open up or uncover new in-game areas for mapping.
- Work alongside the content team to populate the map with in-game findings, pinning markers, uploading screenshots and writing descriptions.
You are:
- A PC gaming enthusiast with experience of a wide range of genres.
- Very comfortable learning mod/dev tools and other software.
- Highly proficient in Photoshop, with strong image editing skills.
- A clear communicator with good written English.
Nice to have:
- Games media or guide-writing experience.
- Experience engaging with modding communities and using community-built tools.
- Experience working with in-game assets using a range of tools and techniques.
- Familiarity with game engines.
- Graphic design experience.
- Experience using CMS platforms.
