Invasive Khezu Guide
Invasive Odogaron Guide
You can’t hit what you can’t see, and when you run afoul of a sneaky
Invasive Nerscylla haunting the eastern end of Blessing Hill in the Canalta Timberland region. Luring the Invasive
Nerscylla into an ill-advised attack and countering when it’s vulnerable is the key to victory, and this page will cover how to drive off the Invasive Nerscylla in Monster Hunter Stories 3!
Page Breakdown¶
Invasive Nerscylla Location and Preparation¶
Before you do anything, make sure you have a Gunlance with the “Wyvern Fire” skill equipped - the humble
Iron Gunlance you start the game with should suffice just fine! Other preparations aren’t really necessary, but decorations and mutations that boost HP, HP Regen, Stamina and Stamina Regen will all help.
When you’re ready, travel to the Blessing Hill Camp and from there head east to find a river below you. Across this river is a ledge you can reach by jumping and gliding over the river, and once across continue east until you reach a fork, at which head downhill to the northeast. When you reach another river, jump and glide northeast and hug the cliffs to the left to find another strip of ground you can land on, then continue downhill to find a pond where the Invasive Nerscylla prowls.
You’ll find the first tracks on this winding slope leading to the river, which mostly tells you that you need a Gunlance shield to defend against your foe’s attacks. The other two can be found in the pond where the Invasive Nerscylla prowls, so wait for it to look away and sneak behind it, picking up the tracks as you go to learn more about it - the Invasive Nerscylla roams around in a counter-clockwise pattern. As long as you stay behind it, you’ll be fine, and the last two tracks will reveal that only the Invasive Nerscylla tends to get a chance to strike, meaning that you’ll need to counterattack with as potent of an attack as possible… hence the preparations we suggested above!
(1 of 3) One of the simpler Invasive fights, after a few turns, Invasive Nerscylla will go for its signature “Invasive Death Scissors” attack.
Defeating the Invasive Nerscylla¶
Engage the Invasive Nerscylla when you’re ready and when the fight begins you’ll find yourself facing off against a big ghostly spider! As usual, we’ve got to go through some scripted rounds of combat before we have the opportunity to drive the monster off!
- Do whatever you want on your first turn, just note that 1) you cannot hit Invasive Nerscylla and 2) you’ll need to stock up a fair amount of Stamina to use Wyvern Fire when you get the chance! It’ll use “Sneak” on its first turn.
- On its second turn it should use a normal attack (Technical). Counter it with Power to mitigate damage. After this turn you’ll be told that “this is where the real fight begins”.
- That declaration may or may not be something of a lie. On its third turn, Invasive Nerscylla will either use “Entangling Threads”, a Speed attack that hits the whole party (look for the blue or yellow line connecting Invasive Nerscylla to its target) or its signature attack, “Invasive Death Scissors” (look for a red arrow pointing to its target.
The red arrow indicating that Invasive Nerscylla is targeting somebody with “Invasive Death Scissors” is what you’re looking for and is really the only condition you need to win. When you see the red arrow, use “Wyvern Fire” on Invasive Nerscylla, assuming you’ve got enough Stamina (it costs a whopping 60 Stamina to use!) and you should counter Invasive Nerscylla, sending it scurrying back to its den. It should use “Invasive Death Scissors” on the third or fourth round, and if you botch the first attempt you’re probably going to lose a Heart. No matter, though - keep your Stamina up and get it the next time Invasive Nerscylla uses “Invasive Death Scissors”!
Hatch the egg you get from the Invasive Nerscylla’s den to get a Nargacuga Monstie!
Follow Invasive Nerscylla into its den and raid the egg quartz entombed egg there to get a Flying Wyvern Egg, which hatches a
Nargacuga. This creature has three variants (including the base Nargacuga) and the latter variant requires the region it’s released into to have “two or more monsters that control the winds, such as
Great Izuchi,
Legiana and
Paolumu”. This makes Blightstone Woods, Blessing Hill, Howlinyowl Forest or Glacial Caps all good areas for the species to find a home in.
