After holding a feast celebrating the return of Peace to Alabasta, the timer has come for the Straw Hats to leave. Vivi is having trouble deciding whether to stay and heal her country as princes, or travel as a member of Luffy’s crew. Luffy and friends take her feelings seriously, even if it is just a memory.
Luffy and the others return to Waford after finishing their adventure in Alabasta. Lim seems exhausted. Chopper is worried, but Lim disregards him. Adio then appears and tells the crew that he found the cubes they’re looking for in some ruins.
The Straw Hats head to the Dust Ruins, where the second Colossus lives, to get the cubes.
Luffy and the others hurry to the clock tower to diffuse the bomb, but Mr. 2 Bon Clay strands in their way. They manage to defeat Bon Clay after an intense fight, but the time bomb continues to tick away. The Straw Hat Pirates all work together to stop the bomb at the last second. Vivi remains in the plaza to try and talk to the fighting Rebel and Royal Armies, and the Straw Hat Pirates go to the Royal Mausoleum to take down Crocodile. It is there that the crew meet back up with Robin.
Luffy and the others bring the Lil’ Mover back to the Dust Ruins and successfully ride it across the quicksand. They say goodbye to the crab and use the mechanisms in the Dust Ruins to progress.
Taking Adio’s advice, Luffy and crew arrive at the Thunderhead Ruins where the Thunder Colossus reside. They see that it is surrounded by a powerful barrier of electricity, but this has no effect on Luffy, the Gum-Gum Man. Adio is in shock as they enter the ruins.
The crew find the Thunder Colossus inside the ruins, but it’s blocked off by a wall of light surrounding it. They then explore the ruins and find the energy- emitting device. When they shut it down, the wall of light protecting the Colossus disappears and the crew do battle with it.
The Straw Hats encounter Kaku in the passageway under the Tower of Law. They struggle against him, but emerge victorious. The crew arrive at the First Bridge Pier and begin climbing up. Learning of Kaku’s defeat, Spandam panics and accidentally orders a Buster Call. Luffy and the others run into Rob Lucci on the top level of the First Bridge Pier. He’s even stronger now, but they work together against him to get back their abducted friends and lost strength.
The Straw Hates pass through the underground cave connected to the path under the giant quicksand on their way to Rainbase. However, it collapses during their battle with Banana Gators. Their path forward is blocked, but then Lil’ Mover appears before the crew and introduces them to a Crab Mover who helps them get across the quicksand.
Luffy and the others arrive at Rainbase and enter Rain Dinners. There they meet Karoo, the Super Spotbill, who tells them Vivi is imprisoned. They head deeper into Rain Dinners to save her.
Luffy and the others struggle against Lucci, but defeat him and reunite with Usopp and Franky atop the Bridge of Hesitation. However, the marines have them cornered. The crew believes that Merry will save them, but the situation keeps getting worse. Luffy and the others disappear along with the bridge in the explosion from a battleship attack. Just as the marines think they’ve destroyed their target, the Straw Hats appear from the smoke aboard Merry.
*After gathering information in Nanohana, Luffy and the others learn that Crocodile is in his headquarters, Rain Dinners. The crew head there to find him. *
Luffy and friends head to Rainbase. On the way, Lime is curious about Vivi, who is friends with the Straw Hat Pirates despite being a princess. The maze-like Ravine of No Return is a struggle for the crew. When they finally reach the exit, a Sandora Dragon attacks them. In the process of driving it off, they happen to save a Lil’ Mover, a Crab Mover who was trapped.
Luffy and the others travel across the desert of Sandy Island in Alabasta. The heat drains them and makes them sweat, but Lim is excited at seeing her first desert. They avoid the quicksand on their way and defeat the attacking Jura Birds as the pass through the ruins where the dragon sleeps.
Luffy and the others manage to get out of the ruins, but along with the quicksand, a mountain now stands in their way. After taking a different route, the crew arrives at an oasis. There they learn of a path through the quicksand from a caravan of merchants.
Luffy and crew search for Vivi in Rain Dinners. As former vice president of Baroque Works, Robin avoids meeting Vivi and leaves the party to research on her own again. The Straw Hats battle the employees of Baroque Works without Robin, and successfully rescue Vivi. The crew then follows Crocodile to Alubarna with her.
Seeing the crew escape a hopeless situation without losing a single person, Lim cries out in wonder. But Merry has reached her limit. It’s time to say good-by to Merry a second time. Luffy sets fire to the ship and thanks her for watching over them on their adventures. The Straw Hat Pirates quietly watch Merry sink, engulfed in flames.
A room of Sacred Marijoa Pangaea Castle. Hearing the Straw Hat Pirates are near Waford, The Five Elders send out a certain man. At the same time, Sunny is caught in a storm, and the Straw Hats are thrown from the ship.
Luffy wakes up on an unknown shore and sees Sunny sunk offshore. Zoro, Nami, and Brook are gone, he can’t find his hat, and he witnesses the mysterious “frozen lightning.” In his confusion, Luffy begins looking for his friends.
Luffy and the others go through a cave and arrive on another beach in search of the crew. Then Nami’s screams for help ring out. Looking toward the sound, they see Nami being attacked by a giant gorilla on the other side of some boulders. They scatter the beasts they attack them as the hurry to save Nami.
Luffy and the others hurry to Nami while fighting off the attacking animals of the island. During this, the gorilla still threatens Nami, but Zoro appears to protect her.
Luffy and the others arrive to meet back up with them. They work together to drive off the giant gorilla, Del Kong, and save Nami. Franky gets materials from Del Kong’s nest and goes off to repair Sunny. Brook appears to take his place, but the shock of the storm left him as a spirit with no body. It sank to the bottom of the sea, so his rescue must wait until Sunny is fixed…
Nami tells Luffy that she saw a girl in a white hood with the hat he’s looking for, and the assembled crew begins exploring the mysterious island.
As the Straw Hats begin exploring the island, they find Sunny’s anchor stuck in some rocks. When they move the tocks and the anchor, a path into the forest is revealed. Entering the forest, they see towers and ruins, which leads Robin to surmise this might be Waford, the island of legend where a great treasure is hidden.
A Colossus enveloped in fire leaps in and attacks the crew. During the battle, the Fire Colossus suddenly stops moving, and as Luffy stares at it in confusion, a girl in a white hood holding his straw hat appears. When Luffy tries to take the hat back, the girl touches him and cubes fly out of the bodies of the crew and scatter into the sky. While the crew is astonished, the Fire Colossus attacks again. Luffy and the others fight back, but find themselves in trouble because they mysteriously cannot muster up their former strength. That’s when a mysterious man appears and tells them to retreat.
After escaping the Fire Colossus, the crew arrive at the home of the suspicious man who calls himself Adio. He was stranded on this island years ago, and has been living with the white-hooded girl, Lim. Lim has the ability to turn the strength of those she touches into cubes and steal it. She hates pirates, and stole their strength because she thought they were dangerous, Apparently Luffy and the others must find the scattered cubes and stick them into their bodies to get their strength back.
The Straw Hat Pirates face off with Crocodile. Their enemy is stronger in the world of memory, so the weakened crew work together against him. After an intense battle, Luffy finally defeats Crocodile with an all-out attack. The rain stolen by Crocodile falls on Alabasta and the civil war comes to an end at last.
Luffy and the others are compelled to look for cubes, but this will be very difficult with their power gone, so they must accustom themselves to the extreme environment and become stronger.
On Adio’s advice, the crew decides to test their strength as they explore a cave. On their way to Lake Shore Cave, the crew asks Adio the name of the island. Just as Robin expected, it is Waford, the legendary island said to have a path of light that leads to heaven.
The crew arrives at Lake Shore Cave. Adio tells them to test the strength they have now, then returns to his hut. The Straw Hats enter the cave and Robin, seeing the interior, determines it must be some sort of ruins. As they continue their exploration, they find a small cube on the ground. As they wonder what to do with it, it floats up and is absorbed into Luffy’s body.
With one cube absorbed, the crew has some of their strength back. As they leave the cave, they are attacked by a giant squirrel, but easily take care of it. Back at the hut, the Straw Hats want to gather the cubes right away, but Adio stops them. He says there are other Colossi, like the Fire Colossus they encountered in the forest, and they have several of the cubes, Not yet trusting Adio, the crew goes to the Colossus’s location to see if he’s telling the truth.
*Luffy and the others wait for Vivi off the coast of Naohana. She appears and asks them, “if we meet again, will you still me a friend?” as they part. Understanding Vivi’s decision, the Straw Hat Pirates hold up the mark of friendship on their left arms in answer. *
After finishing their adventure in Memoria and “following their accomplishments,” the Straw Hats obtain the cube and get a small part of their strength back.
Luffy and the others defeat the Thunder Colossus and obtain cubes of various sizes, but the Colossus uses its last bit of strength to unleash a powerful lightning attack that comes right for Usopp’s nose.
However, Adio uses his Grab-Grab Fruit power to block it at the last second. With this, the last of the crew’s suspicions towards Adio are lifted. Adio picks up a red ball lying on the ground next to the Colossus. Apparently, this is a necessary item for their adventure on the island. Meanwhile, Smoker and Tashigi look over Waford from the deck of a marine ship. A beam of light suddenly shoots into the sky from the island, making the pair extremly suspicious.
Back at the hut, the crew tries to force the large cubes they got into their bodies, but it doesn’t go well. Adio tells them that the only one who knows how to absorb it is Lim, so they go look for her. At the time, Lim is at the inland sea, talking to the voice in her head. She wants to help Adio, but the voice disagrees. Just as Lim is about to retort, Luffy and the crew arrive.
The Straw Hats ask Lim how to put the large cubes into their bodies, and she answers begrudgingly. She tells them that small cubes are absorbed instantly, but for a large cube to return they must “relive the memory inside.” However, the crew doesn’t understand. Lim says it will be faster if they see it for themselves, and the cube begins spinning in her hand while emitting a blinding light.
The light from the cube envelopes the crew, who then find themselves in a strange place. Luffy instantly call “the strange place.” Lim sighs and says he can call it whatever he wants. She tells them that they can go to Memoria, a world made from their memories, from this strange place. Luffy and friends have to go to Memoria and do again things they’ve done in the past to get the large cubes into their bodies. Lim says this is to “follow their accomplishments.” The crew still doesn’t seem to understand, but Lim holds up the cube, and the Straw Hat Pirates are enveloped in light again.
After finally arriving in Alubarna, the crew rush to the Royal Palace and save Vivi at the last moment. However, the Baroque Works’ plot to blow up the plaza is progressing.
The crew obtain a large cube after defeating the Wind Colossus in an intense battle. On their way back, Robin realizes that she recognizes the writing on a tablet they found in the ruins.
The City of Water, Water Seven is displayed in the cube they got from the Dust Ruins. The Straw Hats begin preparing for their next adventure.
Luffy and friends appear on the shore of Water Seven. In front them is a beat-up Going Merry. Seeing Merry at he rend, Usopp wants to stay with her for a while. The crew understand how he feels, and go ahead without him.
With Iceberg’s help, the crew save the frozen Luffy and Robin. Luffy enters the Franky Family hideout to rescue Usopp.
Franky shows up, and Luffy defeats him and saves Usopp. Then Rob Lucci and Kaku of CP9 show up to take Franky away because he may have the plans for an ancient weapon. The crew fight to keep Lucci from taking Franky, but they are easily defeated by him when he transforms with his Devil Fruit power. Afterwards he takes Usopp and Franky away.
