“My research into the arcane started with that most human need to survive – since I was a child, I tended to be sickly, fragile. I was told that on more than one occasion my parents paid the local priest to give me my last rites, but, to everyone’s surprise, I was able to recover.

So there was something in me that yearned for life, for health, but my natural condition prevented it from flourishing. I needed to find some other way to grant myself vitality.”
