He was a French shepherd boy who heard a divine call to build a bridge over the Rhône River. Though the authorities mocked him, Bénézet proved his mission by lifting a great stone no man could move. Many miracles followed, such as the blind recovering their sight, winning him the support of wealthy patrons, who later funded the bridge’s construction.
