Legend About a Greedy Boy

There once lived a small boy in Svartrau. His parents were poor and he had many siblings, and so he was always skulking around the city searching for something to eat. Sometimes he would steal a pie cooling off on a window sill, sometimes he’d fight stray dogs for bones behind the butcher’s stall.

One time, he walked into an old, ruined building, hoping to find something of value. He went down to the basement and felt a gust of cold air coming from behind the wall. Intrigued, he touched the crumbling bricks – and just like that, they gave in, revealing a forgotten passage.

The boy stepped inside and found a vast, ancient maze. And wherever he looked, he saw something precious. First, he picked up a bronze goblet. But then he saw a silver plate, so he dropped the goblet and took the plate instead. But then he came across a golden vase, and so he forgot about the plate – and so it went.

As the legend goes, the greedy boy is searching the ruins underneath Svartrau to this day, finding all sorts of treasures, but always hoping to find one even more valuable than all the others.
