Merchant's Letter

Alexandra,

I know this will be the third letter reaching you saying the same thing, but I give you my word this time – I’ll be home this month. This is the last delivery. I told him: No more, I need a break. I will stand by it, I promise you.

I’ll buy some clothes for our child while I’m in Svartrau – woollen booties, some soft blankets for swaddling. I’m aware it’s bad luck to get these things ahead of the birth, but we need to make sure we have all we need before the first snows. I can’t wait until I look my first-born in the eye.
