“Olaf of Dubrovnik lost his life in a skirmish against a roaming band of Frankish mercenaries who, not under any official contract at the time, tried to pillage Dubrovnik on several occasions. The large Dane stopped them with just a handful of warriors at his side, but died due to sustained injuries. According to one of his brothers-in-arms, Olaf’s final words uttered towards the enemy just before the fighting began were: ‘Approach in pairs, bastards, I’m in a hurry.’”
