The Tatars of Vale Sangora

Text

The history of Tatars in the valley is not very long – most can trace their bloodline to the Mongol army led by Batu-Khan that crossed the river Danube in AD 1241 and sacked the region. While most of the invading army marched onward to attack the Kingdoms of Hungary and Poland, some of the soldiers stayed behind – tired of warring, they started looking for a place to settle. In time, some of those warriors and their families stumbled upon Vale Sangora and made their homes here – the nobles of house Dragosti allowed them to herd sheep in exchange for an oath of allegiance.

Nowadays the Tatars might be encountered throughout Vale Sangora, but most of them live in the village of Tantari. Their relationship with other Sangorians has always been strained – the Tatars remain outsiders, keeping to their own traditions and customs. However, it’s worth noting that there has never been any open conflict on a larger scale.
