A variant of the Behemoth created by Hojo, Experiment No.88 can be fought in the Training Room in Shinra HQ in Chapter 3. Just talk to Hojo and agree to test your mettle against his various abominations, and eventually you’ll reach this monstrosity.

Not only does this beast have higher stats than the Behemoth you fought in the prologue, but it’s also 50% resistant to fire and ice and immune to gravity and most status effects. It gains these boons at the expense of being vulnerable to lightning, however.

It’ll perform a pair of claw swipes, each dealing moderate damage, as well as Gyro Tail (a spinning attack that deals heavy damage and inflicts knockdown). Its most dangerous attack, however, is Heave, which reduces your health around 20% every time it lands.

Fortunately, like other Behemoths, Experiment No.88 can’t turn very well, resorting to performing 90-degree leaps when it needs to respond to threats on its flanks. Stay at its sides or rear and it shouldn’t be able to hit you with anything besides Gyro Tail.

The Sea Hulk is a Behemoth monster that comes with a permanent Regen effect, giving it back 7252 HP a tick (on Normal). It retains all of the same attacks from other Behemoths such as Gyro Tail and Heave, but also adds Ten Million Volts. This is a !thunderstorm much like the Electrocute spell so having protection against Thunder is wise. Gravity will have no effect against the Sea Hulk.

The Jabberwock is a Behemoth-class enemy that is found during Missions 2-4-4 and 9-2-6. It is a strong enemy that has quick and powerful melee attacks, as well as access to Ultima. Thwack is a percentile damage attack that does about half HP damage, while Gyro Tail does heavy physical damage. Be especially careful when you defeat the Jabberwock, as it will attempt Comet 2 before it perishes. Using a Phoenix Down is recommended to survive that attack, if your SPR stat isn’t very high to mitigate the damage.

The Humbaba is a Behemoth-class monster that is found at the end of Mission 6-6-6. It is a very strong monster that mainly uses physical attacks, although it can also use buffs on itself. It will counter some types of attacks with Damage Up, increasing the damage it does to you. You will also see Defense (nulls physical), Magic Defense (nulls magic), and Psyche Up!.

For offensive moves, it has Gyro Tail like the other Behemoths, as well as Uppercut. This is similar to the Heave attack from other similar enemies, although Damage Up being used multiple times could make it one-hit KO you. After depleting its HP to zero, it will use a last resort of Meteorite, complete with the special ability gauge. It’s challenging to reduce this to zero, so make sure you either have high SPR or use a Phoenix Down. The Energy Materia is especially effective against this enemy, too.
