Faithful Leap Shrine
Fox Dens have returned from Ghost of Tsushima, and play a similar role in Ghost of Yotei - you find a cute little chittering fox in the wilderness outside its den and follow it, usually making several stops along the way (picking up minor bits of loot the process) before your lupine friend leads you to an Inari shrine. Pray at the shrine to get a charm of some description or another.Pretty simple There are ten Fox Dens in Ghost of Yotei, in every region except for Oshima Coast, and this page will help you find them all!
Page Breakdown¶
Yotei Grasslands Fox Dens¶
There are three Fox Dens in the Yotei Grasslands: One near Atsu’s house, south of Lake Shikotsu, another along the southwestern edge of the area, near the Tranquil Falls, and a third along the northern edge of the area, just south of The Road to Ishikari Plain.
Lake View Fox Den¶
From Atsu’s home along the eastern edge of the region, head south to find Lake Shikotsu. This Fox Den is just south of the center of the lake - going just about anywhere south of the lake’s southern coast should cause the Golden Bird to appear and guide you the rest of the way there - look for some red-leafed trees on a hill overlooking the lake, as the Fox Den is right under said trees.
Follow the fox and it’ll lead you to a cave you need to pry open with your grapple, then to a second cave containing the Inari shrine. Pray at it to obtain the Charm of Uncanny Aim. This is right next to the “Home of the Storyteller” on the map.
Flowing Water Fox Den¶
Along the southwestern edge of the Yotei Grasslands region, if you follow Shikotsu River west from Lake Shikotsu, cross to the western side of the river, then follow it south after it forks (this is technically the Barubetsu River at this point), you should find it. It’s just north of the “Tranquil Falls” text on the map. If you reach the Bamboo Thicket you’ve gone too far south. If you stand across the river from the Weary Traveler’s Camp (on the eastern coast of the Sarubetsu River) and look northwest you should spot some red-leafed trees on high ground, which once again mark the Fox’s Den.
The fox will lead you uphill to the northwest, across a gap and to some bamboo stalks. Cut through them, then follow the fox further uphill along a winding path, across another ledge, and up to the summit - the whole route up will be flanked by lavender flowers. Pray at the shrine to obtain the Charm of Assassin’s Resolve.
Grassy Hill Fox Den¶
From “The Road to Ishikari Plain” on the northern edge of the Yotei Grasslands region, follow the road south until it ends at a path of white flowers. Southeast of here you’ll spot the red-leafed trees that indicate a Fox Den.
Head up to the Fox Den, then follow the fox uphill past a campsite and the fox will lead you to a pit where a Settler is stranded. Stand near the rocky ledge and press to help the Settler out, then the fox and the Settler will lead you to a nearby cave. Use your grapple to pull an obstruction free and enter the cave to find an Inari shrine. Pray at it to obtain the Charm of Brutal Volley.
Tokachi Range Fox Dens¶
There are only two Fox Dens in this region, one in the northwestern corner of the region, near Yubari Lake and another in the south-center, north of Shizunai Woods. You have to go through Serpent’s Pass to reach Tokachi Range from the Yotei Grasslands, and if you just keep following the Nupur River northeast you should find Huraniui’s Rest Inn near a fork in the river. This is a good midpoint for searching for the two Fox Den… and one of the more important locations in the region.
Warm Plains Fox Den¶
Head northwest from Huranui’s Rest Inn and you should find a Saito Encampment north of the road. This Fox Den is just to the west of this Saito Encampment, south of Yubari Lake. The red-leafed trees marking the Fox Den should be very easy to spot from the plains west of the Saito Encampment.
Follow the fox west until it stops near a rock with some Bamboo near it, then give the critter a scritch. Repeat the process again to find some Black Powder, then follow the fox into the woods to find some Flowers and some Bamboo. After the third reward for both of you, follow the fox north across a stream and onto a small island along the western half of Yubari Lake, where you’ll find the shrine. Pray at it to obtain the Charm of Archer’s Fortune.
Whispering Woods Fox Den¶
Cross the Nupur River while heading southwest from the Huranui’s Rest Inn and follow a trail of white flowers southeast. This trail runs along the Shizunai Woods, terminating at the “Mysterious Gate”, beyond which lies the quest The Spider Lily General. If you reach this location, you’ve gone too far south - the red-leafed trees marking the Fox Den are to the east of the white flower trail and can be seen from them well enough.
Approach the fox den and the fox living here will lead you east, then north along a mountain path. Jump some gaps, use your grapple to pull down some rocks blocking a cave, then do this again when you reach another obstruction. Keep following the fox and climbing until you reach a mountain spring where three enemies wait. If you’re patient you should be able to assassinate all of them without getting caught. Whether through stealth or more direct means, dispatch your foes, then follow the fox up some more ledges to find this shrine. Pray here to obtain the Charm of Swift Reward.
Ishikari Plain Fox Dens¶
Two more Fox Dens await you in Ishikari Plain, one of which is east, northeast of Ishikari Fork along the eastern edge of the region and the other is further north, sandwiched between Nakagoya Spring and White Deer Woodlands, along the northeastern edge of the region.
Fire Fox Den¶
You can find this region by just following the eastern edge of the region as you head north from the Matsumae Encampment found along the southern edge of the region. Along the way you’ll pass by a Matsumae Outpost and an Ishikari Farm - this Fox Den is northeast of Ishikari Fork, which in turn is just a short distance north of Ishikari Farm. Don’t overthink it - just look northeast from Ishikari Farm to find a large rock formation. The red-leafed trees are atop this rock formation, although they stand out a bit less than in the autumnal landscape of Ishikari Plain.
Climb up the rocks to find the area around the Fox Den on fire. Get the attention of the fox and follow it east to some rocks and use your grapple to dislodge some of them to create a path you can squeeze through. Past that continue following the fox east through some burned forest to reach another obstructed cleft you can clear with your grapple. Behind this cleft is the Inari shrine, and if you pray to it you’ll obtain the Charm of Resolute Victory.
Twin Path Fox Den¶
Find a road running mostly north/south from Higashi Lumberyard in the south to the Masked Man’s Quarry and another Matsumae Encampment in the north. After crossing Nakagoya Spring, wait for the road to turn northwest and look out for the red-leafed trees near the road, marking the Fox Den you seek.
Follow the fox east to a rocky alcove where you’ll find some oni masks and little else. Next the critter will lead you along a trail further east to a cleft you squeeze through, beyond which lies a chest you can loot to score some Oni Raider Mask Fragments - this Fox Den seems to be trying to introduce them to you, in case you haven’t found them by slaying the Oni’s men yet. Follow the trail further northeast to find a tree with more oni masks hanging off it and loot another chest, then follow the trail northwest, west and northwest again to find a path between some bushes that leads to the Inari shrine. Pray here to obtain the Charm of Enduring Resolve.
Nayoro Wilds Fox Dens¶
Nayoro Wilds is a small area, but it manages to snag a Fox Den anyways, having one single Fox Den just to the west of the Nupur River.
Clear Water Fox Den¶
Follow the Nupur River north from Husko Kotan and you’ll eventually find this Fox Den along the western bank of the river. Once again, red-leafed trees will mark its location.
Approach the black fox dwelling at this den and follow it east through some rocks and across the river to find a cleft of… roots? Squeeze through and follow the fox - you’ll probably fall into a deer trap, so be ready to grapple out and be mindful of the disturbed earth as you continue following the clearly mischievous fox. If you’re still giving the critter the benefit of the doubt, that should be dispelled when you follow the fox up some rocks near a cliff - it’ll lap across some platforms, which will break under your weight. Cross using a fallen tree, instead. Continue following the fox until he stops near an Ainu woman and talk to her, after which pick up the Charm of Generous Opponents it drops. No shrine this time.
Teshio Ridge Fox Dens¶
The final two Fox Dens can be found in Teshio Ridge. Once again, the Nupur River (now called the Teshio River) provides, and following the north/east shore should lead you directly to the Winding River Fox Den, while the second is found further north, south of the Sarufutsu River.
Winding River Fox Den¶
From the Red Crane Inn, follow the east/north coast of the Teshio River and look for the red-leafed trees on the northern shore of the river, just above the “Teshio River” text when the river starts to veer from northwest to west. You should spot these red-leafed trees on a rocky cliff overlooking the river.
Once you’ve found the Fox Den, the rest of this is pretty simple. Follow the fox downhill and across the river to a cliff where you’ll need to use your grapple to pull some boulders out of the way and free a second fox. Once done, follow the pair of foxes uphill to a shrine and pray to it to get the Charm of Opportunity.
High Wall Fox Den¶
To find this Fox Den you’ll need to head to the northern edge of the Teshio Ridge and search south of the Sarufutsu River, southwest of Soya Port, southeast of Owl Mountain, or west of Shipwreck Shoal, as you prefer. If you follow the road that loops around the Hakodake Mountains, you’ll spot the signature red-leafed trees south of the road.
Defeat a group of ronin near the Fox Den - they’re numerous and prone to using firearms - and the fox will emerge and lead you north towards the Cape Inari Shrine, where you’ll find another enemy camp. Kill the foes here, too and free two foxes from their cages, then follow the happy critters up to the nearby shrine and give it a pray to obtain the Charm of Lingering Shadows.
